To take a leap Fitbit filed a patent application just before Google acquired them. It’s not something for sure that they will definitely come up with the product for which they have the patent. They might have just preserved their idea. Although, Fitbit ring is not some breakthrough device, in last two months we have seen launches of Evie ring and Bodimetrics also announced their new variant Circul IQ, where both manufacturers promise the accuracy reaching to 98%, why tech geeks are most concerned over the Fitbit is because of the strong reason that since Google acquired Fitbit, there have not been sufficient releases or even updates from the company.

The hype about Fitbit releasing a smart ring was on the peak in 2021, when the patent filed was approved by the U.S.P.T.O. Fitbit after being acquired by Google slowed down on many new releases and updates of the existing wristbands and the smartwatches. The one reason behind the delay of the Fitbit ring could be the acquisition by Google, where the search engine giant is busy exploring the data and making the money spent worth. Many experts also reported that Google is using the biometrics data of the Fitbit consumers and further will sell it to the insurance companies. Google however denied this, and Fitbit also jumped in to crush the rumor that there is another term agreement signed and saved for the user data and if Google if allowed to access that or not.

Fitbit has been a brand which has always worked towards the growing needs of the consumers who are more inclined towards their health or have some health issues which needs to be monitored periodically. In the Covid-19 pandemic when there were ventilator’s shortage throughout the globe, Fitbit launched an easily portable ventilator known as Fitbot Flow, which they later discontinued because of inefficiency in the outcome and support system.

The Fitbit ring has been anticipated for a long time and there are strong rumors suggesting that the Fitbit ring could come out anytime in the March-April 2024. However, the company have not announced anything on the same but the top tech journalists whose predictions mostly come true have forecasted the release anytime in the next two months. 

Consumers shall wait for some official statement to be released and then there could be something said only with certainty and there are rumors and speculations doing rounds so far. The prime reason for such rumors to flow high is the new release Evie ring, the announcement of Circul IQ, which could trigger the Fitbit to make use of their patented smart ring wearable device and give some competition to the new releases.

The features of the Fitbit ring mentioned in the patent are not, however never seen before, but again when the best of the industry is being anticipated to come up with something, the best outcome is always expected. Some expected features mentioned below;

• The primary concern which we felt Fitbit is working towards is measuring the blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and blood pressure levels. 

• Fitbit is using clinical-grade sensor technology to track the user’s blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and blood pressure levels, whereas many other wearable devices use the phenomenon where reflected light is used to measure the user’s blood oxygen.

• Fitbit however is doing this with clinical approach and will develop the Fitbit ring to work like a clinical pulse oximeter, passing light through the skin to a photodetector. Prior to this the only pulse ring oximeter is the standalone device which is the Circul+ ring, which has been FDA approved and greatly relied upon.

• The patent also states that, the Fitbit smart ring would transfer or share the data collected to user phone or Fitbit wearable via Bluetooth or NFC. The ring will also be equipped with a motion tracker, which won’t count steps and would be dedicatedly working towards to make sure that the wearer isn’t moving around, because it’s important for the user to stay in one place while the ring sensors take the blood pressure readings.
