As much as I love carrying my AirPods around, charging them has been a different story. Not that you would forget carrying your AirPods charging case with you, but if you do misplace it, then yes, you can charge your AirPods with a different case, but only if you are using the same model.

As mentioned, you should have the same model so that you can charge the AirPods. For example, if I have AirPods 4 Pro, then I can use my friend’s charging case, who also uses AirPods 4 Pro. If they are of different models, the earbuds won’t sit right in the case, preventing the charging pins from coming in contact, defeating the purpose.
Another important factor is that you should use a genuine Apple charging case. Although some local chargers do work when you’re in a pinch, I think it is wise to stick to genuine products.
How To Pair AirPods With A Different Charging Case
- To pair my AirPods with a different charging case, I start by adding them to the charging case.
- Then I close the lid and hold the setup button for 15 seconds until the amber light flashes white.
- Then I open the lid again and bring it close to my iPhone.
- Now I go to the Bluetooth settings, reconnect the AirPods, and enjoy.
- In case you find difficulty in connecting your AirPods to your new charging case, you can click on “Forget the device” to disconnect them from the previous charging case.
How can you spot A Fake AirPods Case?
Well, the color is the most significant indication. AirPods covers come in white; if there are other colors, you would know the difference.
Another problem that I observe with a fake AirPods charging case is that it may be incompatible with other Apple products, like the iPhone, Mac, and iPad.
Also, they can be incompatible with Apple’s wireless charging options, like MagSafe and charging stations.

I know this has saved me numerous times when I misplace my charging case, but then again, I only use a different charging case from the same model of AirPods you have.
