- I start by connecting my AirPods to my iPhone through Bluetooth.
- Then, I click on the Bluetooth Settings.
- There, I click on the information icon ‘i’ next to name of the AirPods I want to change the name of.
- Finally, I click on Name, change it, enter the new name, and click on Done.
Why Your AirPods Are Not Getting Renamed?
Even after multiple attempts, if you find that your AirPods are not getting renamed, then there can be a few issues with them. Here is a bunch of common problems that you need to look into:
Poor Connection
This happened to me one time when the Bluetooth settings showed that my AirPods were connected, but they weren’t. Usually, when the connection is not secure, the AirPods name does not get saved. Hence, make sure that they are well-connected to your phone and that your AirPods are in close proximity to ensure the name is saved after one attempt.
Restart your phone
Just like all major issues, this problem of yours can also be fixed if you restart your device. Since AirPods can’t be turned off, I simply turn off my iPhone, switch it back on, and try the steps again.
Re-connect Your AirPods
If the Bluetooth connection is not stable, your phone might show the old name. Try unpairing your AirPods, then connect them again, and then change the name.
Update AirPods And Software
When people say that old software can mess up your devices, it is completely true. When your device is not updated, it might experience glitches and have bugs. I have noticed that old software can limit performance and restrict connections. So check that your iPhone is updated with the latest software.

Simply put your AirPods in their charging case, and connect the charging case to a power source. Keep the lid of the case closed and keep the iPhone they are connected to within their range while they’re charging. Keep this setup for about half an hour, and it will update to the latest firmware.
AirPods Are Out Of Battery
If your AirPods are out of battery, then you need to charge them before you can change their name. In my case, when my AirPods are low in battery, they often have connectivity issues, which leads to them not getting renamed.
When my AirPods are fully charged, they work the best without causing any issues. I dare you to try this renaming technique with fully charged AirPods and AirPods that are low in battery to understand the difference between the two.
