Ready for a Splash? Is Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring Waterproof?

The Samsung Galaxy Ring has swarmed the tech world with its promise to be the perfect health and fitness companion. But can this ring truly be your partner to dive into (see what I did there?) every activity, including hot saunas, relaxing baths, and scuba diving?

Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring Submerged in Water - Is Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring Waterproof?

Well, the pool princesses and the surf bros are wondering if the Samsung Galaxy Ring is waterproof or another soggy mess. Let’s find out!

Is the Samsung Galaxy Ring Waterproof?

The Samsung Galaxy Ring isn’t waterproof but it is water resistant and can be submerged in water for 30 minutes in depths up to 1.5 meters or for 10 minutes in depth up to 100 meters. This means you can easily wear it while carrying out regular household chores and wash your hands, shower and even swim with the Galaxy Ring on.

However, the same is not recommended for water sports such as skiing, diving, tubing, etc. I would also strongly suggest against swimming in the ocean, even for a short while, since Samsung explicitly mentions the ring to withstand 1.5 meters of “fresh water” and not salt water. Also, salt water is known to deteriorate the water resistance level of a device over time.

I also wouldn’t take my Galaxy Ring in the sauna with me, which I have done without an issue with my Oura Ring, but this one seems dicey.

Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Ring comes with an IP68 and 10 ATM rating. This means the Galaxy Ring can also stand small dust particles, such as sand and other materials, without affecting its performance.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Ring Charging Case Waterproof?

There is no explicit IP rating for the Galaxy Ring’s charging case; therefore, I wouldn’t wanna risk my $400 to “test it out.” I, anyway, can’t think of a scenario where I would take my charging case into the water so that pans out well.

Just be mindful of splashing water on it just how you would be of any other charger. I simply leave it on my nightstand, and the battery life is pretty amazing that I don’t have to go frolicking around looking for the charger every now and then.

How Do the Samsung Galaxy Ring’s Waterproof Abilities Compare to its Opponents?

Here is a quick comparison to analyze the water resistance capacities of Samsung’s Smart Ring’s competitors.

Smart Rings Water Resistance Capacity
Oura Ringup to 100 metres (~330 feet)
Evie Ringup to 1 metre for 30 mins
Ultrahuman AIR Ringup to 100 metres
RingConn RingUp to 50 metres

Based on these smart rings’ water protection range, the Galaxy Ring can withstand immersion in 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes, which isn’t that much for the price tag. Competitors like Oura give far more bang for your buck with their water resistance.

Wrap Up

While it is water-resistant and holds its worth during day-to-day wear, I advise you to hold off on diving or swimming in the ocean or consider other alternatives if that’s something important to your routine.

It is also noteworthy that Samsung doesn’t provide a warranty for water damage. Despite the marketing tactics that show people enjoying beach vacations while tracking their metrics, every wearable tech has its limits. So, if being in the water is a part of your daily routine, it might be a good move to get Samsung Care+.
