Whether you’re chasing the golden hour for the perfect Instagram selfie or want to experience a breathtaking sunrise in a new country, the sunrise and sunset time on your Apple Watch is a great feature.

However, the Apple Watch sometimes glitches and does not show the local sunrise or sunset time. If a simple restart hasn’t worked for you, here’s how to fix it!
Fix Sunrise/ Sunset not Displaying on Apple Watch
Fix 1: Location Services
- Head to Settings on your iPhone and tap Privacy and Security.
- Tap on Location Services and make sure it is toggled on.
- Scroll down to tap Apple Watch Faces > While Using the App.
- Toggle on Precise Location.
- Head back to the list of apps under Location Services and tap Weather > Always. Repeat for System Services, and also toggle on Precise Location for both.
Fix 2: Location Services of the Clock app
If the location settings don’t work, try changing the settings for location services on the Clock app.
- Head to Settings on your iPhone and tap Privacy and Security.
- Tap on Location Services and make sure it is toggled on. Tap on Clock > Ask Next Time Or When I Share.
- Repeat the above-mentioned steps, Deny the location permission this time on the Apple Watch.
- Repeat and set to Allow While Using App.
Fix 3: Weather app settings
Normally, one of the fixes above will solve your issue of the sunrise/sunset not showing the time. In case it doesn’t, try these steps:
On the Apple Watch
- On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app and tap Weather. Tap Default City and select Current Location.
- Now, head back to the Settings app and tap General. Scroll down to Background App Refresh and swipe the right toggle on Weather and World Clock.
On the Watch app
- Head to the Watch app on your iPhone and tap on Weather.
- Select Default City and tap Current Location.
- Now, head back to the My Watch tab and tap General > Background App Refresh.
- Toggle on Weather and World Clock.
Additional fixes:
- Restart your Apple Watch.
- Add the Sunrise/Sunset complication again to the watch face.
- Unpair and repair your Apple Watch with your iPhone.
- Contact Apple Support if none of the above fixes work.
Wrap Up
The fixes above have helped me sort out any issues I’ve had with the sunrise or sunset timings not being visible on my Apple Watch complication. Also, these fixes would only work if you have the Clock and the Weather app installed on your Apple Watch.
Although these come preloaded in case you accidentally delete these apps from your watch, it could be another reason for the sunrise/sunset timings not being shown on the Apple Watch. So if you’re facing the same issue, go ahead and try them to post that perfect golden hour picture on Instagram.
