I track everything, mostly because it’s my job. From my sleep, my HRV, my cycle, my steps, to the stress spikes during my Monday morning meetings. But there’s one aspect of my body that no ring or smartwatch has ever felt the need to measure, but it’s actually the thing controlling everything: my gut.

Yes, your gut is connected to all things, from your energy levels to your mood, skin condition, immune system and beyond. And yet, we’re still stuck jotting down “felt bloated after lunch” in a notes app and hoping we spot a pattern eventually.
This is what the Suna gut health wearable aims to solve. A new device, not yet launched in the market, which measures digestive and nutritional health like the Oura Ring does sleep tracking. I was so intrigued by this idea that I went on researching how it actually works and here’s everything I found!
So What Exactly Is Suna?

Suna is a tiny sensor patch worn on your abdomen that tracks your gut health. The entire idea is quite straightforward. While your smartwatch monitors your heart rate and the steps you take, your ring monitors your sleep, there is nothing that you wear today that can tell you anything about your gut.
In light of the fact that the gut takes care of a vast majority of your immune system and generates serotonin for your body, this appears to be a major oversight. As opposed to forcing you to note down your meals and symptoms, Suna simply stays on your skin and listens. Literally. It monitors the sounds made by your gut, its temperature, HRV/PPG and movement and uses AI to evaluate your real-time digestive insights.
Another great thing about the Suna gut health wearable is that it enables automatic nutrition tracking so I don’t have to manually log the food I’m eating, gives a personalized eating and productivity window and shows how my body will be responding to GLP-1 medication.
Who It’s Actually Built For
From what I’ve seen so far, Suna doesn’t seem to market itself as a niche medical device for people with diagnosed conditions. It targets a wider net of people:
- People dealing with bloating but not sure why the same food intake affects them differently some days
- People with irregular bowel patterns, where they sometimes feel fine and others not
- Anyone who has to sort out what foods drain their energy and which ones actually fuel them
- People on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro because of the common side effects of slowed gastric emptying and nausea
This particular group caught my eye. Given the number of people on GLP-1, a device that can tell them how their gut works, rather than guessing, is quite practical and more than just a health gadget.
How It Works Day to Day
Founded by Dr. Chad Okay (a former NHS doctor and researcher at UCL) and Selin Talishinska (an AI engineer who dropped out of UCL to build the startup), Suna doesn’t require any conscious effort from your end. You put the patch on your stomach, it is water resistant and has a battery that lasts up to 7 days, which means that there is no need to charge the device on a daily basis or worry about sweating.
They do claim you can wear it while showering, bathing and swimming, but since it is written water resistant, not waterproof, I’m not sure how that would translate into the real world use, especially because I take my baths very seriously. Like we’re talking hour long showers on most days. There is no need to keep a food diary, no logging manually and typing what you have eaten thrice per day like in a class assignment.
It does all the tracking passively and syncs data to the app. This is pretty much the main idea behind the product. Wearables become successful or fail depending on how much friction they create in your life and if there is any diligent logging required, it will definitely be abandoned in several weeks. I can tell from experience that this is how wearables work.

Now this is where it gets really interesting because Suna isn’t just spitting out raw data and leaving you to interpret it yourself. Here is what it actually does for you:
Gut Readiness Score
One daily score, which is quite comparable to the Readiness Score by Oura, but with one small difference: this time, this score will tell you all about your digestion.
Meal Correlation
Here is where things get sorted out for most of us. This metric allows users to see what kind of effect certain foods produce on your gut in real time.
Bowel Activity
Continuous acoustic monitoring of bowel sounds and activity throughout the day by means of AI, instead of just one manual log of the same.
Sleep and Recovery
Given that there is a strong connection between the quality of sleep and gut functioning, Suna decided to add this feature as well.
Pattern Insights
Bringing meals, stress and sleep together to give you an idea of how these metrics interact.
Health Export
It’s made to sync with Apple Health, as well as reportedly with Claude and ChatGPT Health. So basically, your gut health stats won’t remain in a siloed bubble.
Price, Battery and When You Can Actually Get One
Here’s the honest bit. As of right now, Suna is still pre-launch. The device is available only via a waitlist for the moment and according to the brand, it should ship sometime in 2027. Which means that there’s no actual pricing information on the website.
The battery life is the only technical detail they committed to with 7 days per charge and the patch itself is said to be under 15 grams and water-resistant, meaning that it should be easy to wear constantly. Since the device has not shipped yet, I have no real-world battery life and user interface data to tell you about, but it is safe to say that especially with foods these days being full of preservatives and literally everything causing you to bloat and look 5 months pregnant by lunch, this is one of the devices I’m genuinely excited to try out!
The GLP-1 Angle Nobody Talks About Enough
I want to sit on this one a bit longer because I think it’s the most underrated use case for the Suna wearable. There are a lot of people on GLP-1 medications at this point. While technically a medication for Type-2 diabetes, appetite suppression and weight loss gets all the attention. I mean, even Scott Disick uses it. Even Oura and Ultrahuman have GLP-1 insights featured on their smart rings.
But despite it being a fad, when used correctly, it has promising results. What does gets treated like an afterthought are the gut side effects, nausea, bloating and slowed intestinal transit.
With a tool that can measure how your unique gastrointestinal system reacts to these medications, instead of having to follow generic tips that may not suit your condition, you would actually start to change the way you eat while you’re on GLP-1. You could see whether portion size or meal timing has more impact on your symptoms, tweak accordingly and actually catch a pattern instead of just white knuckling through side effects and hoping they ease up on their own.
Suna vs the Other Ways to Check Your Gut Health
Suna positions itself in contrast with toilet cameras and one-time microbiome stool tests. It is interesting to look at Suna’s comparison chart for it reveals the key difference in data gathering between the products in question.
A one-time microbiome test allows you to learn about the microbes present in your stool only. Two to six weeks will pass by before you get the results of a test that costs extra when done again. A toilet camera lets you know something only after you have already used the bathroom, hence, allowing you to analyze the end result rather than the process. Suna is going to be the only product among the three able to monitor the digestion process with its sound, heart rate, temperature and motion sensors.
At least, this approach looks quite logical on paper. The accuracy would only be known later.
Pros and Cons of Suna Wearable
Pros:
- No need to manually log your meals or keep a symptoms diary
- There’s absolutely nothing else in the world of wearables tracking gut health
- The meal correlation feature can actually be really helpful for those suffering from bloating or food allergies or intolerances
- Syncs with other health apps such as Apple Health and others
- 7-day battery life ensures you don’t have to keep charging it
- Really useful for people on GLP-1 drugs and suffer from side effects related to digestion
Cons:
- There’s no public price yet
- It ships in 2027, which means it’s quite a lengthy wait if you need something available at present
- It is not a medical or diagnostic device, it won’t help you diagnose IBS, IBD or SIBO
- Putting an abdominal patch on your body for a long time may require more commitment than wearing a ring or watch
Wrap Up
This is exactly where things need to go in the future. Wearable tech has been breaking boundaries when it comes to providing health related insights over the past couple of years. Be it the Xpanceo lens that detects blood sugar with your tears or Vivoo FlowPad, which analyses your menstrual blood for hormone health, but gut health is the one aspect that has been left out, despite its significant importance.
Asking “why hasn’t anyone done that yet?” sounds like a perfectly valid question in this case. But before getting all giddy over this new tech, I would still wait until it is released and tested in the field to make any conclusions. The release date is set in 2027, which means that there is still plenty of time before Suna hits the market.
Moreover, as it is common practice in this industry, wellness device manufacturers often overpromise on their products and fail to meet the deadline. So I will be keeping that in mind while keeping an eye on the Suna wearable and the device becomes available for real-world evaluation.
