Evie Ring Vs Apple Watch 9 – Which Is Better?

When it comes to health, I am quite particular about fitness gadgets. That’s why I bought the Apple Watch 9 a few months back. It’s quite swanky, I must say! However, wearing it 24 x 7 was something I didn’t like. So, I decided to buy another health gadget that would be easier to wear.

Evie Ring on The Left, Apple Watch on The Right, with VS in Between - Evie Ring Vs Apple Watch 9

After my thorough research about light yet effective health gadgets, I ended up buying the Evie Ring. Now, I have these amazing gadgets that help me monitor my health throughout the day. Since I am using both of them, I feel that my experience of using the Apple Watch 9 and Evie Ring will help fitness freaks find their perfect health gadget.

Comparison Between Evie Ring And Apple Watch 9

Many of you must be wondering if it is possible to compare the Evie Ring with the Apple Smart Watch Series 9. From my experience, I say yes! Though one is a ring (worn on a finger) and the other is a watch (worn on the wrist), they are both fitness trackers that measure most of the health metrics.

However, the Apple Watch 9 has more diverse features that are absent in the Evie Ring. For example, I can easily control music, open a notification, or attend to my calls without using the iPhone by using the Apple Watch 9’s gesture feature. It even has emergency sensors like fall & crash detection! It is very fancy and cool.

My experience with Evie Ring was also good overall. I wanted a lightweight health wearable gadget, and it is quite pretty. I can track my SpO2 through the Evie Ring, which is otherwise absent in the Apple Watch 9 features.

If you don’t want to buy both and want to go with either of them, this comparison article will surely help you to decide.

Design & Available Colors

I am very particular about the design of my wearables. After all, they are my accessories, and I don’t want to look over-dressed! In this sense, both the Evie Ring and Apple Watch 9 are stylish and unique in their own ways. While both of them look aesthetically pleasing, they are quite advanced.

Unlike other regular rings, the Evie Ring has an open-ended design that makes it look more stylish. The ring has a metallic finish and a shiny outer area that enhances the overall look. Apple Watch 9 design was no less either, as it has sophisticately crafted square-shaped dials with stylish bands. So, I had a tough time choosing the best one.

Though Evie was available in Silver, Rose Gold, and Gold colors, I was impressed with the gold Evie Ring, as it looks very similar to the actual gold ring. So, it would have served me as a standard piece of jewelry while calculating the health vitals. Since it was unavailable at that time, I settled for the Silver Evie Ring!

I had more color options while buying the Apple Watch 9. It was available in Pink, Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and Red aluminum cases. If someone is interested in buying a stainless steel case Apple Watch 9, it is available in Gold, Silver, and Graphite colors only. My watch has an aluminum case and is in a Starlight color. It looks so beautiful and goes with my daily attire so well.

Material, Durability & Comfort

Both wearables are durable because of their sturdy materials. Evie Ring material has liquid metal and a titanium PVD coating, while the Apple Watch 9’s case is made up of aluminum or stainless steel. Its environmentally friendly bands are a plus point as they are carbon neutral.

Unfortunately, my Evie ring got scratched while doing an intense workout session. So, I would suggest you not wear it while doing something that might scratch the ring. Otherwise, you can wear an Evie Ring while doing the dishes or other light work. I didn’t face such challenges while wearing the Apple 9 watch as it was wrapped around my wrist!

Size 2: Height: 41mm Width: 35mm Depth: 10.7mm

Despite having scratches on my ring, I am still happy with the product as it can be easily worn or removed. I faced a lot of problems while removing rings whenever my fingers were swollen during my periods or in extreme weather conditions. No such problems came with my Evie Ring (due to its open-ended design) or Apple Watch 9 (obviously, it’s a watch!), and I am quite glad about it.

Battery Life & Charging

Now, let’s dive into the charging options and battery life of both fitness trackers. I find it easier to charge my Evie Ring compared to the Apple Watch 9. Evie Ring has a portable charging case that I can easily carry with me. Moreover, the charging case can hold up to 10 charges. So, there is no need to worry about charging the Evie Ring. The additional benefit is that I can use the case as my Evie Ring’s organizer as well.

The Apple Watch Series 9 has a magnetic charging cable that charges the watch like any other smartwatch charging cable does. So, I need to plug it into a power source to charge my Apple Watch. This is not the case with the Evie Ring. You just put it inside the case and the charging is done!

The battery life of the Evie Ring depends upon how much I am using it. So, is the case with the Apple Watch 9! Though their official websites claim that they have a higher battery life, it usually varies. My Evie Ring’s battery drains within 3 days, but the official site claims that it has a battery life of up to 4 days. Now, I expect a better battery life in its future versions.

Apple Watch Series 9 has even less battery life than the Evie Ring. If I use all the features at the same time, the battery life is only 18 hours. However, if I use my Apple Watch 9 in low power mode, its battery lasts for 34 hours. In any case, the Apple Watch’s battery life is very short and requires frequent charging. I wish Apple had given enough attention to the battery life as it is charging us a fortune for each of its products!

Undoubtedly, the Apple Watch Series 9 wins here. It has so many sensors that can measure several health metrics. Though the Evie Ring also has advanced sensors, it is still behind the Apple Watch sensors in terms of diversity. However, if you want to track basic health metrics like HR, SpO2, Sleep, etc., Evie Ring is also a good option.

Accuracy

Both the Apple Watch and the Evie Ring are tracking my sleep cycle similarly and giving almost the same results. I have observed that the Apple Watch’s accuracy is more trustworthy in terms of tracking workout sessions, steps, and calories.

The Evie Ring’s heart rate and SpO2 accuracy are far better than the Apple Watch because it has a lesser margin error than the FDA-approved margin error. Though the FDA has not officially approved Evie’s claim yet, I feel that it is a very encouraging step by Evie to become a medical-grade device.

Since the Apple Watch 9 and Evie Ring do not have similar advanced sensors, it’s hard to compare their every feature accuracy. But I must say, the Apple Watch 9’s Gesture feature is praiseworthy as it is quite accurate in handling finger movements to answer a call or control the music.

As you can see, the Apple Watch Series 9 has more features than the Evie Ring but doesn’t have SpO2 like the Evie Ring. Apple has discontinued the SpO2 tracking feature after 18 January 2024.

Health Tracking

While both these wearables have many features, my focus remains primarily on features that track my health and fitness. After all, the prime reason to wear them is that only. I am quite impressed with the Apple Watch’s health tracking, as it is very quick to pick up changes in my body movements.

Be it exercising or activities, the Apple Watch Series 9 tracks everything quite accurately. I use it for activities like cycling workouts, where I can access live data and metrics. While the Evie Ring also tracks active minutes and workouts, I am more satisfied with my Apple Watch’s results. I have to manually add activities and workouts in my Evie Ring but my Apple Watch tracks them automatically.

Apart from tracking physical health, I liked the Apple Watch’s Mental Health Assessment feature, which is absent in the Evie Ring (it has Mood And Energy metric instead!). It helps me focus on my mental well-being. Evie’s Daily Summary and User-based Insights are also helpful for understanding overall health data.

In my overall experience, I found that the Apple Watch Series 9 covers more health-tracking metrics than the Evie Ring. However, there is not much difference between the two in tracking health metrics, and Evie Ring also tracks major health metrics that are sufficient.

Sleep Tracking

I tested both Evie and Apple Watch 9 during my sleep time to determine what they were offering. To my surprise, there was not much difference between the two, as they both track sleep stages and timings and show elaborate slides.

I wore them together for a month and found out that there were slight differences in the readings. So, I ditched wearing the Apple Watch at night as it felt bulky during sleep. Now, I wear Evie Ring to track my sleep. When I take a power nap during the day, I rely on Apple Watch. So, it’s kind of fun using them both to compare my sleep tracking.

Upcoming Features

Since Evie Ring is a new launch, there is a lot of scope for improvement in it. As of now, the official website has not made any claims, but I would like to see features like blood pressure monitoring, stress score, movement index, VO2 Max, glucose monitoring, etc. It would help to enhance the ring’s ability to focus on more health vitals.

Apple Watch Series 9 already has upgraded features, but it always has scope for introducing new things. Though Apple’s official website doesn’t tease any new features, it can introduce bigger screens, new upgraded chips, magnetic band mechanisms, blood pressure monitors, sleep apnea sensors, glucose monitors, etc.

Prices & Subscription

ProductPrices
Evie Ring$269; No Subscription
Apple Watch Series 9$399 – $529; Subscription with Cellular

Undoubtedly, the Evie Ring is cheaper than the Apple Watch 9. However, I feel that the price of a new smart ring is still a bit higher in the market. The only good thing that I found while paying for the ring is that the price is $269, irrespective of the ring’s color and I won’t have to worry about paying its subscription. So, once I bought the Evie Ring, I could use all its features through the Evie app.

When it comes to the prices, you can’t expect anything cheaper in the Apple products. Though it delivers sophisticated gadgets, they are so expensive that many people can’t even think of buying them, and it’s so unfair!

Similarly, the Apple Watch Series 9 models also have extravagant prices. It ranges from $399 to $1049. As you can see in the table below, it varies due to cellular feature availability as well.

I bought the 41mm GPS+Cellular model and also paid $10 monthly to access its cellular features. Plus, I also have a $14/month YouTube Premium subscription. Indirectly, I am paying more price to access the Apple Watch 9 features.

Final Verdict

In my opinion, both gadgets are doing a pretty good job, but affording both of them is not everyone’s cup of tea. So, if you want to have a fitness tracker to measure your workouts, have emergency sensors, answer calls, track sleeping, HR, Stress, etc., the Apple Watch 9 Series is a good option for you. However, it is pretty expensive and requires multiple subscriptions to access all features.

The Evie Ring does not have calling options, controlling gestures, or emergency SOS, but it tracks several important health metrics that are sufficient to know your overall health without any additional subscription plan. Thus, it is a viable option for those who are skeptical of the Apple Watch 9 prices.

In terms of features, the Apple Watch 9 is a better option, but in terms of price, the Evie Ring is a smart choice. If you can buy them both, that’s much better as it will help you to cover the maximum health metrics alongwith exclusive Apple Watch 9 features. You can wear them according to your comfort and preference.
