“Fashion meets technology” is a genre that’s setting the tone for the future. With the Apple Watch x Hermès collaboration setting a precedent, Gucci partnered with Oura, a Finnish health technology brand that is widely known for its smart ring, helping people keep track of their health and wellness.
With its collaboration, it now embellishes a tech product sought after by many, the Gucci x Oura Smart Ring. Priced at $950, the Gucci x Oura launched in May 2022 and is backed by Oura’s Gen 3 technology.
The Power of Brand Value: The Design
Marrying the “quiet luxury and minimal jewelry” trends, the Gucci x Oura ring fits perfectly together. The ring features a black PVD coated titanium band, 0.3” in width. It’s lined with an 18k yellow gold braided torchon detailing and embedded with the famous Gucci interlock logo in matte black, with one of those logos in gold, indicating the position where the ring is supposed to be at.
The charger also comes in a matte black finish, with the Gucci logo embossed all throughout. And to validate your purchase, in the center of the charger, in shiny gold (obviously) are the words GUCCI.
But the branding doesn’t stop here. The charging cable from Gucci, also branded with its logo, is probably the most expensive USB-C connector on the market.
Beauty and Brains: The Features
The ring features the Oura third-generation technology, providing a wealth of metrics such as:
- Monitoring heart rate
- Sleep cycles and nap detection
- Body temperature
- Activity tracking
- SpO2 sensor
- Guided meditations, and many more.
Lindsey Vonn, in conversation with Chriselle Lim, mentioned in a podcast by Gucci that as an athlete, her muscles got sore when she was working out excessively, indicating when she needed to take it slow. But ever since transitioning into business, there’s no such clear indication of when to rest. Especially since the millennial generation is so used to burning themselves out (myself included) that our bodies can’t tell that it’s “not normal” anymore, that’s where the metrics from Oura chime in.
Vonn rightly points out that the more information you have about yourself, the better you can adapt.
Is the Price Tag Worth it?
I think I take Aldo Gucci’s words pretty seriously when he said, “Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten.” An argument I take to my mom more often than not. Spoiler: she doesn’t appreciate it.
To justify the price further, the Gucci x Oura ring comes with a glistening offer. Otherwise valued at $5.99 a month, the Gucci variant includes a lifetime membership of the Oura Ring, which gives you access to your daily health insights, personalized recommendations, and a vast collection of about 50 guided meditations.
While the price tag may seem hefty, if I do end up paying $950 for a tech gadget, better make it Gucci. And I would be getting a lifetime membership free, so it’s justified, right? Girl math!
Listen, call it brand loyalty or a functional gadget that doesn’t look like a gadget; there’s a reason why these sold out both times.
It could easily transition from complimenting my workout clothes at a Pilates class (yes, I put together workout clothes because it makes me feel like I have my life together) to an evening dress for a night out!
The Drawbacks
Now I’m all for advocating luxury, however, there is one drawback of this collab in my opinion. While the Gucci variant works exactly like the Oura Gen3, their collaboration with Natural Cycles rolled out in August 2022. The Gucci collab launched in May 2022, which makes it incapable of tracking your menstrual cycle. Bummer.
That being the only drawback, in my opinion, could I get 3 regular Oura rings in place of 1 Gucci variant? Yes. Would I get 3 Oura rings in place of 1 Gucci variant if I had the budget? Probably not.
However, Gucci, if you’re reading this, do your girl a solid and release a gold/rose gold version if you’re planning to come out with it again. And I don’t even want it all to be 18k gold, that’s a little too from my budget. Just the brand name is enough for me. Hit me up and let’s talk design?
Some users of the Gucci x Oura Ring have reported the gold accents falling off. While this doesn’t do much for the brand, they have been pretty quick to resolve such requests. If you own a Gucci variant of the Oura ring and have had the same happen to you, drop a complaint at Gucci, take it into the store and they will repair it. Grab yourself a bag while you’re at it.
Gucci has a worldwide warranty of 2 years on their products. In case they can’t repair the ring since it has been sold out for a really long time, they will offer you a full refund. Now THAT definitely earns a bag.
I recently discovered OSleeve, which can also be used to protect your ring, no matter what variant you have.
Is the Gucci x Oura Ring Coming Back In Stock?
The limited edition collaboration launched the Gucci x Oura Ring in May 2022. It was available online at Gucci and at select Gucci stores across the globe. The ring sold out within a few weeks, indicating the demand. It was then brought back into stock in October 2022.
As of March 20, 2023, it is no longer being sold. I even had a word with Oura and a Gucci advisor, but there is no news of a possible restock as of yet.

Wrap Up
With the generation 3 of the Oura backing up the Gucci variant, the black ring with 18k yellow gold accents, is sleek, stylish and can easily transition from day to night, making it well worth the $950 price tag.
Since the integration of Natural Cycles app with Oura came about in August 2022 and the Gucci variant launched in May 2022, unfortunately, the Gucci variant does not support cycle tracking.
I, being a longstanding fan of both luxury fashion and tech that helps me track my health better, can’t wait to see which luxury fashion and tech brands collaborate next.
