When I got the Motiv Ring 3 years ago, its tracking features amazed me. However, today’s smart rings are a step ahead in terms of design, sensors, specifications, and features. Does this make my Motiv Ring irrelevant?
Well I recently got my hands on Motiv ring and wanted to compare the two. One is one of the earliest smart rings, and the other one is the newest in the market. Who will provide the most value for your money, Motiv or Evie? Let’s find out!
My Experience With Motiv And Evie Smart Rings
Though I don’t suggest that Motiv is not a good ring, Evie is overall better. Motiv was a good fitness tracker a few years back, but it had done nothing to capture the market. It has not upgraded itself, and moreover, the official website is not producing the ring anymore.
Evie, on the other hand, has a lot of features that are missing in Motiv. You can even get it at almost the same price range. So, why settle for less when you can get more at the same cost?

Design And Colors
My Motiv Ring looked like a regular ring, but its material and finishing made it look like statement jewelry. At that time, it was available in three color options- Black, Rose Gold, and Silver. Though I wanted to have the Black one, I had to choose the Silver ring because Black was out of stock at that time. Well, it seamlessly blended with my other jewelry.
Later, I wanted to have a Black ring (as you know, black is trendy nowadays!), but the Evie Ring was available in Rose Gold, Silver, and Gold color only. So, again, I opted for the Silver Evie Ring. It is also quite stylish and looks elegant on my finger. It seems like silver jewelry is my thing now!
Comfort And Durability
In terms of material, I found the Evie Ring more flawless & solid as it is made of Liquidmetal, which is a Zirconium-based Amorphous alloy with a Titanium PVD coating.
The Motiv Ring is made of titanium alloy, and the inner part has medical-grade biocompatible plastic with steel and gold plating. Both rings have scratch-resistant coating, but they might get damaged by rigorous activities.

One of the major things that I noticed and, in fact, liked about the Evie Ring was that I was able to wear it comfortably on my swollen fingers because of its open-ended design. Since the Motiv Ring is a close-ended round ring, I had trouble wearing it or removing it on my “swollen finger” days!
Sleep Tracking
One of the prime reasons for having a smart ring was to keep tabs on my sleeping schedule. I had the bad habit of waking up for long hours at night without knowing how much I had slept in total. When I was wearing the Motiv Ring, I was able to see data on how many times I had woken up in the middle of the night and the total sleeping time only.
Though Motiv Ring gave me sufficient data, Evie Ring’s sleeping feature gave more elaborate data. Now, I can see my sleep quality, deep sleep duration, and sleeping stages throughout the night, along with the data that Motiv Ring shows. So, I prefer using the Evie Ring to check my sleeping schedule.
Battery Life & Charging
I had different charging experiences with both rings as their charging methods are different. I used to charge my Motiv Ring by placing it on the USB magnetic charging dock connected to my laptop or other power sources. It took almost 90 minutes to charge it completely.
Evie Ring, on the other hand, has a portable charging case that can hold up to 10 charges. So, I simply charge the case and put my ring in it whenever my ring needs to be charged. I don’t have to worry about the power source either. And plus, the charging case acts as my ring’s organizer! Since I am very absent-minded and often misplace my things, putting the ring in its box is a blessing for me.
Charging Details | Motiv Ring | Evie Ring |
Official Ring Battery Life | 3 days | 4+ days of battery life (varies based on usage) |
My Ring Battery Life | 2 days | 3-4 days |
Official Ring Charging Time | 90 minutes | 60 mins |
My Ring Charging Time | 90-110 minutes | 60-70 mins |
My Motiv Ring’s battery drains according to how much I use it for tracking activities. Usually, its battery life is three days, but I had to charge it in two days when I used its tracking features for more time.
The Evie Ring battery lasts longer than the Motiv Ring. I charge it every almost four days, depending on usage.
In terms of charging and battery, I find Evie a better option as I can carry the portable case with me anywhere, and the ring can be charged by putting it in the case only. Moreover, the battery life is longer. That’s what I expected in my new smart ring, after all!
Sensors

Green LEDs | No | Yes |
Infrared LEDs | No | No |
Infrared PPG sensors | No | Yes |
Skin Temperature sensors | No | Yes |
Optical Heart Rate Sensor | Yes | No |
Photodiodes | No | Yes |
3D Accelerometer | No | Yes |
3-Axis Motion Sensor | Yes | No |
As we all know, advanced sensors are essential for a good smart ring. When I bought the Motiv Ring, it had limited sensors- a 3-axis Accelerometer and an Optical Heart Rate Sensor that was used to track my heart rate, steps, and sleep. Though limited sensors were enough to track basic health metrics at that time, it failed to include more sensors to upgrade itself.
My Evie Ring sensors are more advanced as the ring is equipped with red and green LEDs, Infrared PPG sensors, skin temperature sensors, photodiodes, and a 3D accelerometer. The sensors track several new health metrics, including Motiv Ring’s metrics. So, it is undoubtedly more advanced and better than Evie.
As you can see, the Motiv Ring does not have sensors like red and green LEDs, Infrared PPG sensors, skin temperature sensors, or photodiodes like the Evie Ring. So, it cannot track several metrics like HRV, SpO2, RR, Stress, or Recovery like Evie does.
Accuracy
One of my top priorities while buying the new smart ring was the accuracy of the gadget. Since, I was wearing the Motiv Ring for years, I had a good idea about its accuracy in sleep, steps, activity tracking, etc. It tracks my sustained steps instead of random walking by analyzing my heart rate at that time as well. Thus, I get almost accurate steps instead of a blanket number of steps taken. Thus, I am satisfied with its sleep, RHR, activity intensity, etc., tracking data.
With the new Evie Ring, I had a huge expectation. I researched its accuracy and found out that its Heart Rate and SpO2 metrics are as per FDA standards (though it needs FDA approval for it!), and Evie is already seeking FDA approval to become a medical-grade gadget. Anyways, its pulse oximeter accuracy already exceeds the FDA benchmark, and thus, its HR and SpO2 metrics are reliable.
My sleep tracking by Evie was more descriptive than the Motiv Ring tracking. Moreover, Evie tracks HR every 40 seconds and monitors vital accordingly, which I believe is almost accurate. However, it is a new ring in the market, and there is always room for improvement. So, the Evie Ring needs to be more accurate in its upcoming versions.

I have found Evie Ring way more advanced than Motiv Ring in terms of features as well. The Evie Ring has almost all the features similar to the Motiv Ring except the Activity Intensity tracking along with the features that are unavailable in the Motiv Ring (HRV, SpO2, RR, Skin Temperature, etc).
What I really appreciate about the Evie Ring’s features is that it has made an effort to add female-related metrics like menstrual cycle, fertility & ovulation prediction, etc., unlike the Motiv Ring, which doesn’t have such features at all.
Prices, Subscription & Availability
Buying a good smart health gadget can burn a hole in your pocket. That’s what I experienced while buying my Evie Ring. Though I liked the Evie Ring performance, the price, i.e., $269, was a bit higher for me. Since it is a new smart ring and does not have a credible market presence, I expected it to be less than $250.
Pricing Details | Motiv Ring | Evie Ring |
---|---|---|
Official Price | $199.99 | $269 |
Subscription | Free | Free |
The Motiv Ring was cheaper than the Evie Ring, but now it is not available for sale on the official website. However, you can buy it from online platforms and local retail stores in your area.
Given the prices, the Motiv Ring seems cheaper, but it does not offer several features like the Evie Ring. Though the Evie Ring is a bit expensive, it offers features like detailed sleep analysis, menstrual health, respiration rate, skin temperature, etc. So, I find the price okay-ish!
Final Verdict
Between Evie and Motiv Ring are definitely better choices, especially when it comes to health, sleep, and cycle tracking.
A few years ago, nobody wondered about metrics like HRV and SpO2 on a daily basis, but this is the new normal. You will want to see how well you slept in all of your sleep stages, and none of it would be possible in Motiv. Unfortunately, the Motiv ring didn’t keep up with the market.
Motiv had huge potential, since it launched almost with Oura, only if it had kept updating its hardware. Nevertheless, Evie is the better choice between the two and you won’t regret making your purchase.
