Pixel Watches stand as one of the finest Android smartwatches of all time. But when it comes to working with an iPhone, the answer is a big no. Google Pixel Watch does not work with an iPhone, and that’s not even surprising.
When did you last hear an Apple product work with a non-Apple one? Never, right! Apple has always focused on exclusivity, restricting its functionality in more ways than possible.
It’s a more established fact that Apple Watches won’t connect with Android systems, but Android throwing the same shade back wasn’t actually the norm in the tech world earlier.
Let’s dig into this.
Does Google Pixel Watch 2 & 3 Work With iPhone?
Neither Google Pixel Watch 2 nor 3 works with an iPhone. They only connect with an Android OS 9.0 or later. But you know, there was a time Android smartwatches did offer compatibility with iPhones.
Samsung actually had an app called the Galaxy Watch iOS app, and up until 2020, its Galaxy Watch 3 connected well with the iPhone. There were some limitations, but they still connected and functioned.
In relation to Apple locking its ecosystem, now Google has locked its ecosystem as well. It’s too bad Apple users can’t use other devices because one Apple Watch can’t fit the needs of all Apple users.
Not taking away from the fact that Apple Watches are one of the best smartwatches to exist, but as I said, they might not be the best for all. Some users might be open to using Android smartwatches, but alas.
What Should Apple Users Do?
Now, clearly, choosing a Google Pixel Watch won’t be a choice for Apple users. There are other smartwatch brands that offer great smartwatches, such as Fitbit, Garmin, Amazfit, Withings, and Huawei. However, there’s one big “But” there. You can use these smartwatches with an iPhone, but they will have many limitations.
Apple, being Apple, has restricted many features to just Apple Watch, so the experience you have by staying within the Apple ecosystem is irreplaceable.
Now, before deciding whether to stick with an Apple Watch or choose some other watch brand, you should look at things you won’t be able to do if you go for other smartwatches.
Things Apple Users Can’t Do If They Opted For Other Smartwatches
- You won’t be able to send text messages via iMessages.
- You might be unable to answer any calls because Apple doesn’t give microphone access to third-party apps.
- Won’t be able to use Apple Music or even Siri.
- Won’t be allowed to download apps via iOS/iPhone.
- Won’t be able to give voice message replies.
- Data syncing in real time might be difficult, leading to delays or requiring manual input.
- You won’t be able to access Google Assistant.
…among many others.
So, I suggest getting your priorities straight. First, be very clear about what purpose you want a smartwatch for: aesthetics, style, health tracking, or as a smartphone assistant.
Does it matter to you to stick to the Apple ecosystem?
If your answer is yes, the Apple Watch is the way to go, and it is genuinely a great device.
But if you are interested in trying something new, something fresh and out of the box, explore other smartwatches, not for sticking into the ecosystem but for actual helpful features you think you’d like.
Wrap Up
For now, you would not be able to use a Pixel watch with an iPhone. For once, I would want these big companies to create products, not just to create a flagship product, but also for a genuine user experience. Allowing people to sync their smartphones to whatever smartwatch they want.
