Finally, after years and years of waiting, there is an official Snapchat application for watchOS. For the longest time, Snapchat did not have an app. Unlike Instagram and TikTok, there wasn’t even a third-party app that allowed access to Snapchat. Now we don’t need one.

Thank god for this Reddit thread that got me all working. I have read all the official notes and details so that you can quickly get on using Snapchat on your Apple Watch.
How To Use Snapchat on Apple Watch?
Snapchat now allows you to preview chat messages on notifications and reply to them directly from your Apple Watch. However, you still cannot see videos, streaks, or any snaps from your friends. Before this, there was no Snapchat app on the watch, but recently, users have found the Snapchat logo in the app section.
Earlier, one could only have Snapchat notifications on the Apple Watch, and that was it. Now, you can preview the message and reply on top of getting the notification. That’s a start, and I will take it.
You need to check a few things before downloading Snapchat on your Apple Watch-
- You should have an Apple Watch Series 5 or later.
- Your Apple Watch should have WatchOS 9 running or newer.
- Your WatchOS version should be the latest version.
Assuming you already have Snapchat on your iPhone, it’s time to get the app on your Apple Watch too.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone & click on My Watch.
- Hit General, then turn off the Automatic App Install.
- Again, go to My Watch and scroll to find Apps Installed on Apple Watch.
- Now tap on Install next to Snapchat.
Since I have already use Snapchat, its simply giving me the option to “Show App on Apple Watch.”
You will have the Snapchat app downloaded on your Apple Watch. Now, it’s time to enable all notifications.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone & click on My Watch.
- Click on Notifications and select Snapchat.
- Tap “Mirror my iPhone”.
Theoretically, now you’re all set to receive Snapchat notifications, preview the chat message, and respond to the message by tapping on the Reply button present in the notification. You can type using existing Apple Watch methods, such as keyboard, scribble, dictation, or by selecting an automated suggested reply.
There is a limitation to receiving chat previews on Apple Watch. You can only see the first 100 characters of the chat. Then again, who’s texting you a 100-character-length text? No one, so you have nothing to worry about.
Also, you won’t be able to see any previous messages and chats. No Memories, no saved snaps or stories or voice messages or images or videos. Basically, besides looking at the chat notification and replying, you won’t be able to do anything else.
When I tried the said steps to reply, the Snapchat logo simply got stuck on the screen and did not move for eternity after I clicked on the message notification. I hope they fix it soon.
It’s A Start
As I said earlier, Snapchat finally has an official app for the Apple Watch and actually thought about the consumer demand there. Unlike TikTok and Instagram, which have much larger demand for the apps on the Watch, but won’t blink an eye about it.
