Name something better than closing the activity rings at the end of the day; I’ll wait. I’m sure all my fellow Apple Watch users understand the feeling.
Well, if you have a Peloton membership, connecting the two and having your heart rate tracked directly on the Peloton app, along with your workouts added to your activity rings, is a wish I’ll fulfill for you today.
Just call me Genie and follow along.
Connect your Apple Watch to Peloton
Step 1: Open the App Store on your iPhone and download the Peloton app.
Step 2: If your iPhone and Apple Watch have an ‘Automatic App Install’ configuration, the same app will be displayed on your Apple Watch. If not, follow steps 3 and 4; otherwise, skip to step 5.
Step 3: Open the Watch app on your iPhone and under the My Watch tab, scroll down to Available Apps.
Step 4: Tap Install against the Peloton app.
Step 5: Open the Peloton app on your iPhone and log in with your All-Access Membership.
Step 6: Allow the pop-up for sending push notifications directly to your Apple Watch. Also, allow the app permission to write to the workouts.
Step 7: Then go to the Profile tab.
Step 8: On the top right, tap Menu > Apple Watch > Set Up.
Step 9: There will be three prompts displayed; toggle them on. These are-
- Connection to the Health app. Tap Edit > Toggle on the permissions.
- Toggle on Share Your Location for better GPS tracking.
- Toggle on ‘Track Your Movement’ and ‘Motion and Fitness’ to use the pedometer.
Step 10: Close and launch the app again. If the app now prompts ‘Start a Peloton workout on your device’, it is successfully configured.
Step 11: Begin a class on your Peloton app, Bike, or Tread, as you normally would.
Step 12: Once the class starts, a push notification will appear on the Apple Watch. Tap Connect.
Step 13: The Peloton app on the Apple Watch will detect the workout automatically. Accept when asked for permission to access your heart rate data.
Step 14: Once the permission is granted, the heart rate should be displayed on the Peloton screen.
Troubleshooting connection issues between Peloton and the Apple Watch
If you are experiencing connectivity issues with your Peloton app and your Apple Watch, try these fixes:
- For a connection issue, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both your devices- the Peloton device you’re using as well as the Apple Watch. Also, check that the Peloton app has permission to access necessary data from the watch, such as heart rate.
- If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from your Peloton device, try moving closer during the workout and check for any other electronic device nearby that may be disturbing the Bluetooth connection.
- Ensure a proper snug fit of the Apple Watch on your wrist and make sure it doesn’t sit loose in order to get correct heart rate data. Also, make sure to clean the watch sensors with a soft microfiber cloth if the data seems inaccurate.
- If the Peloton app is crashing frequently, make sure both the app on the Peloton device and the Apple Watch are updated to their latest versions. Also, make sure the Apple Watch is updated to its latest software version.
