As diligent as I am in recording my workouts, there are often times when I forget to log my workout on my Apple Watch. Be it at the gym when I forget to switch between the kinds of workouts, or if I forget to wear my watch or even if my watch dies mid-workout – there is a way for me to manually add the workout to my Apple Watch via the Health app.

Add a workout to the Health app

- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap Browse > Activity.
- Scroll down and tap Workouts > Add Data.
- Enter your workout details, such as the type of activity, your calories and distance from your treadmill if you were on one. If not, you can skip this part.
- Tap Add and this will be added to your Fitness app on your iPhone as well under ‘Sessions’.
Remove a workout from the Apple Watch

If you have entered a workout with the wrong details, you can simply remove the workout using the Health app on your iPhone.
- Open the Health app on your iPhone and open the Browse window from the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on Activity > Workouts > Show All Data.
- Select the workout you want to delete from the list, swipe left, and tap ‘Delete’.
Can You Manually Add A Workout To Your Apple Watch Directly?
There is no way to add a workout directly from your Apple Watch currently. It will be possible only through the Health app on your iPhone.
Can Manually Adding Workouts Restore Your Activity Ring Streak?
Manually adding your workouts will add to the activity rings on your Apple Watch. The only thing to note here is that adding the workout manually does not update the activity rings automatically; it took a few hours for the rings to reflect the changes. However, this does not add details such as steps, active calories, and heart rate if you log in manually.
Wrap Up
Adding a workout manually is a great way to keep a log of all my workouts and activities, even if I miss wearing my Apple Watch that day. I was banking on this to help me close my rings, and it stood up to the test. Manually adding your workouts will only help me keep a log of these activities, but not add details such as steps, active calories, and heart rate.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, there is no way to add a workout directly from your Apple Watch currently.
