Pixel Buds 2a vs Galaxy Buds FE: Budget ANC Battle

I remember standing on a busy street corner last Tuesday, surrounded by honking cars and noisy construction work. I had my earbuds in, but I could still hear every single hammer strike. It was one of those moments where you realize that budget earbuds aren’t going to survive in the real world, they need to improve their quality.

If you are an Android user, you’ve probably asked yourself: Pixel Buds 2a vs Galaxy Buds FE, which one is actually worth the money? Both promise Active Noise Cancellation, great sound and smart features, but as I discovered after using them side-by-side, they take very different approaches to comfort, sound tuning and even their integration within their respective ecosystems.

I’ve been swapping between these two daily, using them for work calls, gym sessions and long walks.

Design and Comfort

When you look at these two buds on a desk, they don’t look very different.

Pixel Buds 2a use a twist-to-fit design with a small silicon stabilizer. They are incredibly light as they weigh 4.7 grams and sit very comfortably in your ear.

The Galaxy Buds FE use traditional Wingtips and are a bit heavier than Pixel Buds 2a, weighing around 5.6 grams. Once you pop them in, they feel locked in and ready for workouts.

The Pixel Buds 2a case is like a smooth pebble. It is slim and can fit into that tiny coin pocket in your jeans. It also comes with an IP54 rating, which means it can handle sweat and dust quite well.

Galaxy Buds FE’s case, on the other hand, is glossy square shaped which has strong magnets. It comes with an IPX2 rating, which means it can handle sweat and it is fine for a casual workout or short cardio sessions, but not ideal for intense training or stepping out in heavy rain.

ANC Performance

When we talk about Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on budget buds, we have to be realistic. It will not turn an airplane engine silent, but it should make your office noise a bit quieter.

Galaxy Buds FE seals ur ear completely because they sit deeper and have those little Wingtips, they block out a lot of noise naturally. When I turned the ANC on in a noisy cafe, the low noise of people vanished. Samsung’s ANC technology is surprisingly strong here, it feels heavy and very isolated.

While Pixel Buds 2 use something called Silent Seal 1.5, which is powered by their own new Tensor A1 chip. To me, the noise cancelling felt more natural. It didn’t give me that blocked ear feeling that some ANC earbuds do. It is great at blocking the noise inside a public bus.

Sound Tuning, EQ and App Experience

The Pixel Buds 2a come with balanced sound. The vocals are crisp and the music feels wide like you’re sitting in the middle of the room with the band. Google added a spatial vent to these earbuds, which helps to reduce that “plugged-up feeling” in your ears and makes the audio feel more open.

Pixel Buds 2a come with the Pixel Buds app, in which you get a 5-band EQ and the setup is also very easy. It also has a cool feature, Spatial Audio, which makes movies sound like they’re happening all around you. Although it doesn’t track your head movements like the more expensive Pro model.

While in Samsung Galaxy Buds FE, Samsung has tuned these with a V-shape sound, which means the bass is loud and the high notes are sharp

Galaxy Buds FE comes with the Galaxy Wearable app, which has six equalizer options: Normal, Bass boost, Soft, Dynamic, Clear and Treble Boost.

If you use a Samsung phone, these earbuds use the Samsung Seamless Codec. It basically ensures the music stays high-quality and does not skip, even if you are in a crowded area with a lot of interference.

Mic Quality in Noise

Pixel Buds 2a use dual beamforming microphones, which are combined with the power of the Tensor A1 chip. Google uses a feature called Clear Calling, which is basically AI that acts like a filter. It recognizes your voice and attempts to remove background noise from your surroundings. These buds come with Wind-blocking mesh covers that help in controlling background noise.

In case you feel they are not connecting properly, a soft reset or a hard reset is also very easy on the Pixel Buds 2a.

While in Galaxy Buds FE, it comes with a Triple Mic Array, which means the buds are packed with 3 microphones, two on the outside and one on the inside into each bud. The inner mic is specially there to pick up your voice from inside your ear canal, which helps bypass external wind.

Battery Life and Charging

The Pixel Buds 2a claims 7 hours of bud life with ANC on, which can be stretched to 10 hours if you turn ANC off and in my experience, it was accurate.

The charging case also provides a total of 20 hours in ANC on and 27 hours in ANC off. It also supports Fast Charging through a USB-C cable.

While Galaxy Buds FE provides around 6 hours with ANC on and can be stretched to 8.5 hours if you turn ANC off.

The charging case of Galaxy Buds FE provides a total battery life of 21 hours with ANC on and 30 hours with ANC off, which can be charged again via USB-C.

Android Features

The Pixel Buds 2a come with a standout feature, which is Bluetooth Multipoint. This is a huge deal for anyone who works from home or carries two phones. It allows the Pixel Buds 2a to stay connected to two devices at the same time.

Galaxy Buds FE, on the other hand does not use true Multipoint. Instead, they have a feature called Auto Switch, which is smart switching, but it mainly works within Samsung’s ecosystem. It means if you are watching a movie on your Galaxy Tab and a call comes into your Galaxy phone, the buds will hop over to the phone automatically. It even works with some Samsung TVs.

Both the buds also support the Find My earbuds feature. If you lose your Pixel Buds 2a, you can see their last location on a map or make them ring if they are nearby.

While the Galaxy Buds FE do the same through the Find My Earbuds option in the Galaxy Wearable app.

Price and Availability

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Buds FE are priced at $99 USD, which can be purchased from the Samsung Official Store, Amazon, Best Buy or Walmart.

Final Verdict

If I had to choose one in the battle of Pixel Buds vs Galaxy Buds FE, I would go with Pixel Buds 2a. Because of the comfort and the Multipoint Switching. I was able to stay connected to my computer and phone at the same time, which is a lifesaver for my workflow.

The lightweight fit also meant I could wear them for hours without any ear fatigue, something that really matters during long workdays. The sound tuning feels balanced and clean, making them just as good for calls and podcasts as they are for music.

Both of these earbuds are proof that you don’t need to spend $300 to get a great experience. It really just comes down to whether you want a more isolated fit like Samsung or a smarter and more flexible connection like Google.
