How To Transfer Oura Ring To New Phone?

Hey, Wish me- It’s my Birthday! And just like every year- I too bought myself a gift- A new mobile phone. Finally!

But then came the task of transferring all of my data to the new phone. And most importantly moving my connected gadgets to the new phone.

And if you know me, you know the very first thing I did was sync and transfer my Oura Ring to the new phone. But with its seamless transfer process, I was able to access all of my Oura data on my new phone without losing any details. Want to know how? Follow the steps below to know how to transfer Oura Ring to a new phone without losing your saved data.

Transfer Oura Ring To A New Phone: iPhone And Android

Let me tell you one thing that Oura follows a strict ‘One Ring, One Account, One Device’ policy.

According to this, you cannot link multiple devices to one Oura ring. If you try to log in on two devices simultaneously, the earlier logged-in account will go into a restricted mode and stop syncing data. The Ring then needs to be factory reset, and the associated account logged in again. However, if you logout your account from one device, you can connect to a different device.

That is why when I had to transfer my Oura Ring to the new device, my Oura Ring wouldn’t automatically connect to a new phone just by turning on Bluetooth like most gadgets. I first had to remove my older device and then initiate the connection with the Oura app on the new device.

With this, I was able to shift my ring as well as my saved data seamlessly by following these steps:

1. Backup Your Oura Ring Data

1. Connect to a stable internet connection.
2. Place your ring on the charger until it is 50% charged.
3. Open Oura App.

4. Go to Oura Home Tab> Menu (Upper Left Corner).
5. Select Settings.

6. Click on Back up all data.

7. When the backup is complete, tap OK.

2. Remove Your Ring from The Old Device

1. Take your ring off the charger and place it on a flat surface.
2. Go to Oura Home Tab> Menu bar.

3. Select Settings.
4. Click on Sign out.

5. Open Bluetooth Settings and remove your Oura Ring from the connected devices.

3. Connect Your Ring to The New Device

1. Leave your ring on the charger, connected to a power source.
2. Install the Oura App on your new phone.
3. Tap on Start.

4. Log in to your registered Oura account & connect your ring.

5. Follow the in-app instructions to set up your ring.
6. After Sign-in is complete on your new device, uninstall the Oura App from your old phone.
7. After logging in- Your backed-up data will be displayed automatically.

Note: To prevent loss of any data, I had to log in with the same account I used to back up my data.

By following these steps, you can easily transfer Oura Ring to a new phone. However, when I upgraded my Oura Ring, I had to set up my Oura Ring again.

PS:- As per Oura, you can only transfer or sync your Oura Ring backup data to a new device when they have the same operating system and Login Account i.e.- From iOS to iOS or Android to Android. If you try to transfer from iOS to Android or vice versa, your data will not transfer but will always be available in the cloud.

However, when I tried to transfer my Android data to an iOS device, I was able to move all of my synced data without losing any information. So, transfer between the operating system is possible in contrast to what Oura has previously claimed.

This was only possible because I had my old phone along with me. But what if my phone was lost? Would I have been able to transfer Oura Ring to a new phone? Yes, you can transfer Oura Ring data to a new phone without accessing your old phone. How? Let’s find out.

How To Transfer Oura Ring To New Phone Without Old Phone?

As mentioned above, Oura policy currently only supports One device with One ring.

That is why, to transfer Oura ring data to a new phone, we need to disconnect or remove the ring from the previous device. But that becomes impossible when your Mobile/ device is lost or somehow inoperable. Well, how to save your data now?

In such cases, when you no longer have access to your old phone, you can transfer Oura Ring and its data to your new phone by factory resetting the ring. Let me show you how:

1. Download the Oura app on the new phone.
2. Open the Oura app> log in to your Oura account with your registered credentials (That were linked in your previous mobile)
3. Oura app will prompt the link to factory reset Oura Ring. Tap on it.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the resetting process.
5. After the reset process, your account will log in on the new device.

Finally, you have moved your Oura Ring to a new phone.

PS- This will delete all your Oura Ring data that is not currently synced with the Oura app. (Data not uploaded to Oura Cloud account/ Oura App)

Is It Possible To Transfer Oura Ring To a New Phone Without Oura App?

Transferring Oura Ring to a new phone without downloading or using the Oura app is impossible.

Oura app plays a crucial role in backing up and re-downloading Oura Ring data. I realized having the Oura app is necessary for-

• Connecting a new or upgraded Oura Ring to a phone.
• Syncing Oura data.
• Getting our health metrics and reports.
• Factory resetting the ring

I also observed that, without the Oura app, I was only able to soft reset the Oura Ring, i.e., I could just restart my ring or reset my hardware connections.

I finally moved all of my Oura Ring to the new phone. Initially, I was scared of losing my data and scores, but after following the simple steps given above- I was able to transfer my Ring, as well as all of my data, to my new device.

However it was possible only because I had access to my old phone as well. In case your old phone is lost, you will only be able to recover the last synced data metrics after the factory reset.
