With the launch of Oura Ring 4, users of Gen3 are wrestling with the choice of whether it is worth the upgrade. Especially for users who have recently joined the Oura cult, there is one question circling everyone’s minds– Does Oura Ring Have a Trade-In Policy for Gen 4?
I’ve explored all possibilities for upgrading your Oura Ring to Ring 4.
Is There a Trade-in Deal for Gen3 Users?
Sadly, there is no option for a trade-in policy for Gen3 users of the Oura Ring. This was available previously at the launch of Gen3, wherein the people who upgraded their rings got grandfathered into a lifetime membership.
How About Return and Exchange?
I know the buzz has been on for a very long time about a new Oura Ring, but the launch without prior notice had people making purchases of the Gen3 even a few hours before the Oura Ring 4 was launched.
I know it’s not an ideal situation to be in; however, if you have purchased an Oura Ring recently and want to upgrade to Gen4, you are eligible for a return within 30 days. You cannot exchange a previous model of the Oura Ring for the new Oura Ring 4.
If you haven’t received your Oura Ring yet
In case your order hasn’t been shipped yet, you can cancel your order for a refund and place a new order for Oura Ring 4.
If you’ve already received your Oura Ring
You can return your Oura Ring and get a refund on your purchase. This refund can be used to place a new order for Oura Ring 4.
If you’ve ordered an Oura Ring from their authorized retailers, you can check their return policy and get a refund, if eligible.
So, What Does That Mean for My Membership?
If you’re God’s favorite child and got grandfathered into a lifetime membership when upgrading from Gen2 to Gen3, or, have an ongoing subscription plan with Oura Gen3, the same will be carried over to your Oura Ring 4.
For Gen2 users upgrading to Oura Ring 4, a membership plan will be required to access various metrics and features. I have found no use for the ring without a membership, and Gen2 displays all features without a subscription. In case you’re planning to upgrade without a membership. I suggest you stick to your Gen2.
Wrap Up
While Oura doesn’t have a trade-in policy like some of its competitors, such as Ultrahuman, which offer a trade-in for previous Ultrahuamn rings and even an Oura Ring (ahem! ahem!); there is still an option to return the ring, provided you purchased the older model within 30 days of placing a return request.
Alternatively, you can use Oura’s referral program and deals and discounts to snag a deal on the new variant. The Gen3 is also currently on a never-seen-before discount, probably the last batch before they only stock Ring 4.
