Apple Watch supports FaceTime as a part of the Apple ecosystem. But, FaceTime video calls are not possible on the Apple Watch because the tiny device does not have an in-built camera.

FaceTime also requires an internet connection so you need a stable Wi-Fi connection or a good Cellular service in order to place FaceTime audio calls. This means FaceTime is available regardless of the Apple Watch version you have.
Here are two ways how you can make FaceTime audio calls on the Apple Watch.
Make FaceTime Audio calls from contacts on the Apple Watch
On your Apple Watch,
- Open the Phone app and tap Contacts.
- Select the Contact you want to call and tap on the Phone icon.
- Then select FaceTime Audio.
Make FaceTime Audio calls using Siri on the Apple Watch
- Press and hold the Digital Crown to access Siri.
- Give a command like “ Hey Siri, FaceTime Kristen”.
- Scroll the Digital Crown up and down to adjust the volume.
Make FaceTime Audio calls using Messages on the Apple Watch
- Open the Messages app on your Apple Watch and select the contact’s chat.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap FaceTime Audio.
- Or tap on Details, then the Phone icon and FaceTime Audio.
To make a Group FaceTime Audio call
Make sure you have the watchOS 10 or later. While on the call,
- Tap the three dots and Add People.
- Tap 2 People Active, then the plus icon at the bottom of the screen, and choose a contact to add to the call.
Shift Apple Watch call to iPhone
On your iPhone, tap the green pill shape on the top left corner of the screen. This will transfer your call from the Apple Watch to the iPhone without disconnecting.
Wrap Up
Taking calls on my Apple Watch is not only convenient, but it is also hands-free because I do not have to whip out my phone every time. I can also easily connect my AirPods to the Apple Watch call without the speaker invading my privacy.
As far as video calls on the Apple Watch go, I don’t think I would want it even in the future for the sheer violation of privacy and everything that could go wrong with a camera on my wrist.
