The dynamic duo of the Matrix treadmill to help me lose weight and the Apple Watch to track my progress has helped me remain optimistic about my health journey. However, when I started this journey, I faced a lot of difficulties, and the most basic one was how to connect the two devices together.

Being a newbie, I was embarrassed and figured out how to do it on my own. Since then, I have decided to share my knowledge on how to connect the Apple Watch to the Matrix Treadmill, so that anyone can do it easily and calculate their steps accurately. It is not that difficult, and if you are in the gym, figuring out how to do it, then follow my lead.

How To Connect the Matrix Treadmill To An Apple Watch

Turn on Detect Gym Equipment

  • Apple Watch can only detect the Matrix treadmill if you turn on the ‘Detect Gym Equipment’ option first.  To do it, I go to the ‘Settings’ option.
  • Then I go to the ‘Gym equipment’.
  • There you will find the option to detect gym equipment. Make sure you have turned it on.

Connect the Two Devices

  • Before connecting, I go to my workout app on my Apple Watch.
  • There, I select the kind of exercise that I am going to do.
  • Finally, I turned on the Bluetooth on both devices.
  • Then I bring my Apple Watch close to the treadmill.
  • Finally, you will see a prompt appear on your Apple Watch. Click on ‘Connect’ to pair the two together.

Why Your Apple Watch Is Not Connecting With Matrix Treadmill

Not Detected

When I was first getting used to the Apple Watch, I faced this problem a lot. I followed the easy instructions of connecting my Apple Watch to the treadmill by bringing it closer. However, no matter how hard I tried, the two never connected.

After scratching my head over it, I came to know that it had detection issues. Now, usually, you are supposed to hold it close to the treadmill. I did that too. However, I found out that if you place your palm on top of the treadmill or on the left or right side of it, then it is bound to work. Hold it as close as possible to the treadmill to pair the devices together.

Settings Not Turned On

No matter how close you bring your Apple Watch to the treadmill, it won’t connect if the settings are not turned on. For example, if the detect gym workout setting is off, then there is no way that the two will connect. 

Hence, go to the workout section and follow the steps I have mentioned above. Make sure the settings are turned on because one time, I wasted a lot of my gym time figuring out why it was not working for me. Turns out it was not a bad day, just my carelessness; I forgot to turn on the workout settings.

Paired With Other Devices

If you are pairing your devices for the first time, then I would suggest you cut off the connections with other devices. This can be other gym equipment and even your iPhone. Connecting the Apple Watch for the first time takes time and effort, but after this, it becomes very easy. 

Also, I have observed that when my Apple Watch is connected to numerous devices at the same time, there can be Bluetooth interference. The gym is a place where many people are present together, which can affect the Bluetooth connection. So you can try to minimize this by disconnecting your Apple Watch from other devices and solely focusing on connecting it with the Matrix Treadmill. As a wise man once said, ‘One thing at a time’. 

Connect Before Working Out

I have a habit of forgetting things. I remember one time I started my treadmill session and midway realized that I had not connected it with my Apple Watch. This is when I tried to connect it with my Apple Watch, but it would not work.

Later, I came to know that both devices only connect if the session has not started. If you are midway, then unfortunately, the Apple Watch won’t connect. Hence, always keep it as a priority to connect both devices before you start working out.

Software Issues

The final blow comes from software issues. I know you are tired of watching and hearing this too often, but unupdated devices come with a lot of disadvantages. If your software is not updated, then your Apple Watch might glitch, fail to connect, and worst of all, not record the activity of your treadmill.

All of this can be very disappointing for an athlete or gym freak. I am neither, yet it feels like an absolute disaster when this happens. So, always make sure that your Apple Watch is updated.  For this, simply go to settings and see if any new updates are available.

My notion is that if I have spent so much money on getting myself an Apple Watch, then I should use it to its maximum potential. Not just a treadmill, your Apple Watch can connect and record a lot of your other gym activities too, but that’s a story for another day.
