3 Ways To Charge Your Apple Watch Without Charger

There are no points in guessing the only reason I hate my Apple Watch— yes, it’s the battery life. Now, because it’s 2025 and Apple still refuses to give us a better battery life, there are often times when I do need my watch, such as at the gym to track my workouts or if I’m not carrying my wallet and need to pay with Apple Pay, and my Apple Watch just dies on me.

Charge Your Apple Watch Without Charger

In such circumstances, I don’t always have my Apple Watch charger with me. So, can I charge my Apple Watch without its charger? Let’s find out.

Can I charge my Apple Watch without its charger?

Technically, you will need either the magnetic power cable that comes with the Apple Watch or a wireless charger compatible with the Apple Watch in order to charge your Apple Watch without its charger. Otherwise, there is no way to charge your Apple Watch without a charger.

If, however, you have the magnetic cable but don’t have the power plug, there are a few ways to charge your Apple Watch.

Method 1: Use your iPhone or your iPad

If you have an Apple Watch Series 7 and above, the fast-charging magnetic cable comes with a USB-C port. This can be inserted into the iPhone 15 and above or the iPad with a USB-C charging port.

Although it won’t be fast charging and it also depends on the battery of your iPhone and your iPad, it is still an easy way to give your Apple Watch a quick boost in case of emergencies.

Method 2: Use a wireless charger

Although the Apple Watch doesn’t support Qi wireless charging, there are a few portable power banks compatible with the Apple Watch, such as the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger or the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 2-in-1 Wireless Charging Dock with MagSafe

These are available officially through Apple’s website, and I do recommend using an Apple-certified charger in order to avoid any possible damage to your watch.

Method 3: Use your laptop

If you have your laptop on hand, you can use its USB port to charge your Apple Watch with a magnetic USB charging cable. Similarly, I have also used my MacBook to charge my Apple Watch using the Type-C port on my Mac.

Wrap Up

You might have seen people claiming a “hidden port” to charge older Apple Watches. However, Apple has made no such claims. Also, please don’t mess with your Apple Watches in order to find secret charging ports, you might just end up ruining your watch completely. Just carry an Apple-certified portable charger or at least your charging cable for emergencies.
