Can You Install Messenger On Your Apple Watch? New Flash-No!

Getting an Apple Watch was an enriching experience since I could keep track of all my notifications. However, I came to know that I cannot install Messenger in it. Yes, Facebook has discontinued it.

Can you install messenger on Apple Watch

Meta removed the Messenger version from the watch in 2023. But does that mean you cannot use Messenger on any Apple devices? Well, you have to keep on reading to know the inside scoop.

Why Meta Removed Messenger From Apple Watch

Well, it was not Apple’s decision, but Facebook’s (now Meta’s) decision to remove the Messenger app from the Apple Watch. Meta stated that they wanted to focus on keeping Messenger on the most-used devices.

Although a specific ratio of people enjoy messaging from their Apple Watch, the volume of it was very low. A limited number of people enjoyed using the Messenger app on Apple Watch. Hence, updating or maintaining the app for Apple Watch was not worth the money and hassle.

Hence, they shifted their focus to desktops and phones only. iPad, Mac, and iPhone users can still access Messenger from their Apple Watch.

Note: However, you can still receive notifications for your Messenger app on your Apple Watch. Yes, you cannot respond to them, but you will still receive notifications to stay updated about critical updates. Simply, go to the “mirror notifications from iPhone” list and you will get notified. If you do not receive any notifications, then there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Alternatives To Use

Even if you don’t have Messenger, you can still use iMessage, WhatsApp, or Telegram. However, keep in mind that there is no official WhatsApp on Apple Watch, and you can only read and reply to notifications.

iMessage is Apple’s built-in app, so you can see, reply to, and message directly through it. Other third-party apps involve Slack, which you can also use on your Apple Watch to respond directly.

Final Thoughts

Although I was upset that I won’t be able to use Messenger on my Apple Watch, it’s better this way. Replying from the watch was troublesome for me, hence I prefer my iPhone over it. Additionally, you can still view the messages, which will keep you updated and informed.

So the answer to your question remains that no, you cannot install Messenger on your iPhone. However, based on that, let’s not discredit the fact that it offers numerous other message options, which will keep you informed about various activities.
