Can You Shower With Your Apple Watch?

Can you shower with your Apple Watch on

So much so that I didn’t wanna miss my steps in the shower as well. But how safe is it, and what factors should you consider? If you have similar questions, keep reading to join me in my morning routine.

Important Factors To Consider When Showering With an Apple Watch

Yes, you can shower with your Apple Watch, provided it is a Series 2 or later model. Apple Series Watch 2 and beyond are not affected; however, you need to consider some factors.

  1. Avoid showering in extremely hot temperatures. This can impact the watch’s functionality and longevity.
  2. Even when going to saunas or steam rooms, I avoid wearing my Apple Watch.
  3. I avoid using soaps, shampoos, or conditioners in that region when showering. However, if any of these mentioned items come in contact with my Apple Watch, then I gently rub them off using a clean cloth and regular water.

Apple Watch Models With Which You Should Never Shower

Apple Watch Series Earlier Than Model 2

If you have an Apple Watch Series 0 or Series 1, it is recommended that you refrain from showering with it. These watch models are IPX7-rated, which means they can withstand accidental splashes, but they are not ideal for continuous exposure to water. They are also not suitable for water activities, swimming, or showering.

Unlike Apple Watch Series 2 and beyond, Series 0 and 1 do not have a water lock feature or improved seals and caskets. Additionally, please note that Apple’s warranty does not cover liquid damage. Hence, if your watch is damaged due to water activities, you must pay out of pocket.

Apple Watch With Leather Bands

A friend of mine made the grave mistake of showering with his Apple Watch, which had leather bands. Showering with leather bands is a big mistake because it can ruin the leather. Additionally, Apple itself warns against engaging in water activities with leather bands.

Over time, the leather bands can warp, become stiff, or become discolored. Damp leather bands are also unhygienic and smell bad, which can ruin the aesthetics of an Apple Watch.

Wrapping Up

If you have separation anxiety from your Apple Watch, then you can very much wear it to the shower. But keep in mind the factors that I stated, because the anxiety can increase even further once the watch is damaged.

If you follow the tips and precautions I mentioned, you are good to go.
