Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Review: A Premium Smartwatch Built Around Battery Life and Health Tracking

The first thing I usually notice about a smartwatch isn’t the number of sensors it has or how many workout modes it can track. It is much simpler than that: does it actually feel like something I would want to wear every day?

That was the thought that came to mind when I looked at the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro. It has that familiar round-watch look that makes you forget, at least for a moment, that there is a lot of technology packed underneath it.

And that is what makes the GT 7 Pro interesting. Huawei isn’t simply trying to make another smartwatch with a long list of features. It is trying to make a watch that feels like a watch first and a smart device second. But looks can only take a smartwatch so far. So, let’s take a closer look at the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro and see if there is more to it than just a good-looking wrist.

What Is Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro?

To truly understand the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro, you first need to understand where it fits in the massive wearable market. The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro is the brand’s latest flagship wearable in the GT series. Unlike standard smartwatches that try to be a miniature smartphone on your wrist, the GT series has always prioritised three things: traditional watch aesthetics, deep health and fitness tracking and battery life that lasts for weeks rather than hours.

This is a premium smartwatch. It is built for Android and wearable enthusiasts who want the look and feel of a luxury timepiece without sacrificing modern tracking capabilities. While it does not run Google’s Wear OS or Apple’s watchOS, it uses Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS to deliver a very focused experience. The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro is not trying to be a direct Apple Watch replacement for everyone. Instead, it offers an alternative path, one where you do not have to compromise on build materials or battery life to get an accurate daily health summary.

Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Design: A Smartwatch Designed to Look Like a Traditional Watch

When I unboxed this watch for the first time, the first thing that stood out was its build quality. This Huawei watch is made with the aim of resembling a normal watch and it does so in a perfect way. It has a titanium alloy case as well as a raised nano-tech ceramic bezel, which makes it very solid and gives it a very premium feel that is not present in many other fitness trackers. It genuinely looks like a high-end mechanical timepiece that you can confidently wear to a formal dinner.

However, behind its beautiful design, it is the technical Specification that allow the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro to be so durable. Its dimensions are precisely 45.6 × 45.6 millimeters, while its height is 11.3 millimeters. The weight of the watch without a band is exactly 55.5 grams. Such weight distribution allows for an excellent feeling of weight on the wrist, but at the same time, it does not put too much pressure when wearing it during your activities. I have particularly enjoyed rotating the physical crown on the side because it gives you a little click while scrolling through the menus. Finally, it has outstanding durability due to its titanium body, which can survive severe impact and is also certified for diving up to 40 meters deep.

The display itself also proves to be exceptional in order to establish its luxury status. With 1.47 inches of an AMOLED touchscreen which is covered in sapphire glass, the display becomes practically immune to the scratch damage that one encounters on a daily basis. Also, due to a very high peak brightness of 3,000 nits, the display can withstand even the brightest direct sunlight. Thanks to the exceptionally bright display, there was no need to squint while reading messages or monitoring my heart rate while running in the open. Moreover, Huawei presents a variety of excellent detachable straps, one of which is a newly introduced Extremely Comfortable EasyCross. Thus, one can switch between a comfortable and breathable strap during workout sessions and a stylish titanium link strap for a day in the office. Whether I was sweating it out on a trail or sitting in a boardroom, the watch felt perfectly suited to the environment.

But while spending all this time with the watch, I discovered several things that I liked and did not like about its physical dimensions. On one hand, there is nothing I like more than feeling safe and protected with the help of sapphire glass and titanium casing. I happened to hit the watch into the door frame a few times, but due to the quality materials used, it left absolutely no scratches. On the other hand, the watch is just too heavy and thick to wear during nighttime while sleeping. Having an 11.3 mm thickness and weighing 55.5 grams, it becomes quite uncomfortable to wear at night. It may even be a little bit big for people with thinner wrists and the tall watch face could catch on the sleeves of my tight-fitting dress shirts. While this substantial build is fantastic for outdoor durability, it is certainly a slight compromise when it comes to overnight comfort and wearing tight long sleeves.

Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Health Tracking Features

Huawei TruSense Technology

At the core of this smartwatch’s health functionality is the revolutionary TruSense by Huawei. Serving as the brain of the watch, this underlying system intelligently collects and integrates numerous health signals to present you with an overall picture of your physical state. On a technical level, the TruSense framework employs multi-region optical path and ultra-precision glass darkening technologies to monitor more than 60 health parameters within 6 different bodily systems, namely your cardiovascular, respiratory and autonomic nervous systems. Thanks to such a strong backend, the watch is able to provide you with a very accurate daily Physical Readiness Score. Based on an analysis of your heart rate variability (HRV), quality of sleep and activity level during the previous 3 days, it lets you know if your body has fully recovered or if it needs a break. For me personally, having all these complicated parameters simplified in one score was a great help when planning my workouts.

Continuous Heart Rate and Blood Oxygen Tracking

Regarding the daily monitoring of your cardiovascular health, the watch has continuous and real-time heart rate monitoring. The updated heart rate sensor located on the backside of the watch is extremely sensitive, as it claims to have 98% accuracy even when moving around. In this way, it was able to detect my sudden increases in heart rate during interval sprint training, as well as my resting heart rate while sitting at my desk. Besides that, the device has 24/7 blood oxygen (SpO2) sensor. This sensor is working all the time, constantly measuring your oxygen saturation level. It gives you a huge amount of reassurance, without the need for you to pause and start monitoring manually. And, quite unexpectedly, it does not take a toll on the battery of your watch at all.

In-Depth Sleep and Stress Monitoring

Just like the fitness tracking features on this device, the recovery aspects of this watch are equally exhaustive. First of all, it is equipped with advanced sleep analysis which is capable of dividing one’s sleeping time during the night into stages of light sleep, deep sleep and REM sleep. Every morning when I woke up, the Huawei Health application showed me a graph of how I slept and also some tips that would enable me to improve my deep sleep stages. Besides this, it has an emotional wellbeing application and a stress monitor. Through the analysis of the user’s autonomic nervous system data and heart rate patterns, this watch can detect the level of stress one experiences in their daily life. In case you are stressed, it will advise you to do some breathing exercises.

Medical-Grade ECG and Skin Temperature Sensors

The device comes with an integrated ECG sensor intended specifically for measuring arrhythmia of the pulse wave. Just by putting your finger on the side button for 30 seconds, titanium electrodes will make a graph of the ECG of the clinical level which can be used to measure abnormal heartbeats. The device also has a skin temperature sensor. The sensor is intended to passively measure changes in your body temperature during wearing this gadget and it is a very helpful function when it comes to detecting the early symptoms of fever or observing your body’s thermoregulation after a hard training.

Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Fitness and Outdoor Features

Comprehensive Sports and Workout Modes

By exploring the options available on the fitness screen, the device will offer more than 110 unique workout programs ranging from indoor cycling to jump rope and free-weight training. While working out at the gym, I realized that the device automatically detects several exercises and evaluates your physical efforts using biometric data. Moreover, it gives you all the information on your pool swimming, differentiating strokes and measuring your effectiveness. Finally, the device has a Stay Fit app, which measures the number of calories burned each day and offers a personal training program, ensuring your fitness routine is backed by solid, actionable data.

Dual-Band GNSS Positioning and Offline Maps

For outdoor enthusiasts, the tracking hardware is incredibly robust, as the watch utilizes a dual-band full-system GNSS positioning setup. When I took it out for my morning trail runs, the GPS locked on within seconds and mapped my exact route with pinpoint accuracy, even when I was surrounded by tall buildings or dense tree cover. It also provides fully downloadable offline maps directly on your wrist, which is a massive advantage for hikers navigating unfamiliar terrain. Alongside these interactive maps, it features real-time altitude insights, delivering smart alerts for your remaining distance, current pace and gradient data to keep you perfectly informed on the trail.

Advanced Golf, Skiing and Cycling Metrics

Moving from simple running, the watch comes equipped with unique software tailored for particular outdoor sports. In case you like playing on the golf field, the watch has a digital on-screen scorecard and also includes more than 15,000 golf course maps around the world for mapping your path of every single shot you made. While trying out the high-end bicycle functions of the watch, I came to know that the watch has features of a pro which include highest speed, average inclination and descent. Furthermore, it has got skiing function which calculates your turns and G-force.

Extreme Durability and 40-Meter Free Diving Mode

The durability of this smartwatch has been designed for use in harsh conditions. This watch has a very durable IP69 grade, which means that the titanium body is totally dust-proof and also capable of resisting exposure to high pressure water. As I usually exercise while swimming in the water, I am really happy about the fact that the smartwatch is officially classified as a dive-proof watch up to 40 meters deep. In addition to the durable hardware, the watch comes with a dedicated freediving application that features an apnea trainer, hover timer and auto water type recognition.

Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Battery Life: The Biggest Advantage

There is only one thing that stands out from all others as a deciding factor when opting for this device over others and it is the sheer endurance. The battery life of the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro is undoubtedly the biggest selling point of this device. In case of my other smartwatches, I was constantly worried about having to stay connected to my charger due to battery issues. But that’s not the case anymore.

Instead of just lasting a day or two, Huawei has engineered this watch with a massive 867 mAh lithium-ion battery. This substantial hardware capacity, paired with their highly optimized operating system, delivers unbelievable longevity. Officially, Huawei claims the watch provides up to 21 days of battery life on a single charge under light use and up to 12 days under typical everyday usage conditions.

During my own testing in the last few weeks, there was nothing that I kept turned off. Using all the constant health monitoring features, tracking outdoor exercises using the dual-band GPS and receiving phone notifications directly from the bracelet every day, I managed to get a full week and a half without having to even think about charging the device. Even in case you keep the screen on with Always-On Display (AOD), the watch will give you an incredible 7 days of constant battery life which easily beats the majority of its top-tier rivals. For those who are into serious sports, there is also up to 51 hours of constant tracking in trail running mode.

Additionally, even when the battery is fully drained, charging it back to 100% becomes effortless. The watch comes with the fast wireless charging technology, which makes it possible to place the titanium case on the magnetic charging dock. This happens since the watch uses the common 5V-10V DC/2A wireless charging method, which ensures efficient and safe charging. Moreover, the device features reverse wireless charging, which means that I could charge the device by placing it on the back of my compatible smartphone whenever I travel without an electric socket. In essence, the battery life of the device is extended since there are no background-intensive third-party applications like in other devices running the Wear OS.

Smart Features and Software Experience

Apart from all the stunning hardware features, the experience with the software part is what makes this watch an outstanding everyday gadget. Equipped with the highly optimized HarmonyOS by Huawei, the user experience is amazing and intuitive. In my personal use case, switching between grid menu and customizing the control center toggles seems very smooth without any lagging whatsoever. On the technical side, it becomes apparent that the interface performs well due to the variety of watch face customizations it offers. The one feature I liked about this watch was the Always-On Display (AOD) mode that automatically switches to a black minimalist background saving battery aggressively but also letting me see my health widgets.

In terms of connectivity, the watch is equipped with contemporary specifications. Firstly, it has the newest Bluetooth 6.0 protocol which provides extremely stable connection with my smartphone even when I put it away in another room. In this regard, it performs well in sending notifications through a crisp linear vibration motor. On the other hand, the thing which impressed me the most about the gadget is its speaker and microphone systems. Indeed, making a call via the watch while preparing dinner turned out to be quite convenient as the microphone recognized my voice without any problems and muted all the surrounding noise. Moreover, it allowed me to record some of my thoughts using voice recorder function right on my watch. Finally, there is also an integrated NFC module that allows for making payments by tapping but, of course, banks support will be restricted for those who live outside of China.

Everything integrates perfectly with the Huawei Health application, which perfectly works with smartphones with at least Android 9.0 and iOS 13.0 operating systems. From my point of view, this accessory app is one of the best ones regarding its completeness and nice interface. But it is crucial to know that this software ecosystem is a big compromise. It integrates nicely with Android devices and works well with iOS ones still, the HarmonyOS system does not have such a large third-party app store like Apple Watch and Wear OS platforms have. You cannot install any popular third-party applications, which means that you depend entirely on the awesome and closed ecosystem provided by Huawei.

Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro vs Apple Watch and Garmin

When shopping for a premium wearable, it is natural to weigh the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro vs Apple Watch and Garmin alternatives. Each of these platforms serves a different kind of user.

The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro wins effortlessly in the battery life department, offering weeks of usage compared to the standard 18 to 36 hours of an Apple Watch. It also delivers a superior traditional design and fantastic core health tracking. However, the Apple Watch remains the undisputed king of the smartwatch experience. If you want deep iPhone integration, the ability to reply to texts with a full keyboard and access to thousands of third-party apps, Apple is the way to go.

On the other hand, when comparing it to Garmin, the lines blur a bit more. Garmin devices are practically legendary for their deep training ecosystems and athlete-focused metrics. While Huawei has closed the gap significantly with advanced running metrics and offline maps, a hardcore ultra-marathoner might still prefer Garmin’s highly specific training readiness software. There is no universal winner here it simply depends on what compromises you are willing to make.

Where Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro Falls Short

No review is complete without discussing the cons and my time with this watch did reveal a few limitations. The most prominent drawback is the limited app ecosystem. Because it relies on HarmonyOS, you cannot download mainstream apps like Spotify or Google Maps directly to your wrist. You are largely confined to the tools Huawei provides out of the box.

Additionally, depending on your region, you might face smartphone ecosystem restrictions or availability differences. Getting the Huawei Health app on some Android phones requires downloading it directly from Huawei’s website rather than the standard Google Play Store, which adds a slight layer of friction to the initial setup. Furthermore, iPhone users will find that certain features, like advanced message replying, are restricted compared to Android users. The hardware is undeniably strong, but the software ecosystem remains an important factor you must consider.

Who Should Buy Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro?

You should buy the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro if:

  • You want long battery life
  • You prefer a premium, traditional watch design
  • You care about health tracking
  • You regularly track workouts and outdoor activities
  • You want a smartwatch for everyday use
  • You do not want to charge your watch every day

Who Should Avoid Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro?

You should avoid the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro if:

  • You want deep iPhone integration
  • You need a large third-party app library
  • You want advanced Garmin-level training tools
  • You expect a full smartphone-like experience
  • You rely heavily on Google or Apple services
  • Huawei support is limited in your region

Wrap Up

The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro gets a lot right. It looks like a hybrid smartwatch, packs in plenty of health and fitness features, handles outdoor activities well and most importantly, does not constantly remind you to charge it. That combination makes it a very appealing everyday smartwatch.

But it is not perfect. The limited app ecosystem, some regional restrictions and weaker iPhone integration are compromises you have to accept. For me, the GT 7 Pro is at its best when you want a smartwatch that still feels like a watch. If that is what you are looking for, Huawei has built a pretty convincing package here.
