Chest Strap vs Wrist Heart Rate: When Does a Strap Actually Matter?
The chest strap reads the electrical signal that your heart emits on every beat. Modern smartwatches rely on shining light through your skin to detect heart rate based on blood flow, which is a very different approach to getting this information.
In case of continuous, relatively moderate runs, a modern watch is quite enough for most users.
