While my Oura ring faithfully tracks my sleep and activity, but its power source – the charger – seems to be failing. After using the ring for almost eight months, the charger is now giving me tantrums. So, I thought of replacing it with a new one.
Oura’s warranty policy covers charger replacements only if the problem stems from a defect in material or workmanship. This means if the charging cable frays or the connector breaks for no apparent reason (not due to dropping or misuse), it’s likely a manufacturing defect, then Oura might replace it under warranty. At least, that’s what happened to me.
Since my charger replacement came under the warranty period of one year, it was easier for me to replace it. But that’s not the case with everyone. Let me tell you when you can replace the charger and when you cannot.
In What Cases Can You Replace Oura Ring Charger?
As per Oura’s official information, it will repair, replace, or refund any damaged rings or chargers for a period of one year, starting from the date of your original purchase. Here is when you can go for the replacement:
When there is a Defect in material or workmanship
I have always treated my Oura ring and charger with care, but one morning, I noticed that the cable near the connector was inexplicably split open, revealing wires inside.
So, I immediately opted for the replacement to their customer support. Their level 1 support responded promptly the next day and verified that I had a defective charger via video evidence.
Since there was a defect in the cable material, they escalated my issue to the warranty department and within a few days, they were sending me a new charger. Thanks to my stars!
Also, if your charger is replaced, it will also be under warranty for 90 days, or if your original warranty is longer than 90 days, then that will be applicable. Whatever is longer. Moreover, your warranty duration also depends on the country you live in, so always research well about it before applying for replacement.
But let me tell you, my colleague had a totally different experience when she applied for the charger replacement. I bet most of you have had a similar experience to her.
In What Cases Can You Not Replace Oura Ring Charger?
My colleague Smriti and I both bought our Oura rings almost at the same time. But when she went for the charger replacement, she did not get a replacement charger. Now that I think so, our chargers almost stopped working at the same time.
That makes me wonder, is there something fishy about the charger’s life period that is a lot bigger than most customers realize? Well, that is something you and I can discuss about later on.
So, Smriti accidentally stepped on the charger cable, causing it to break. When she asked for a replacement, their customer support denied the replacement and suggested that she should buy a new charger.
Although she did buy a new one after that. But, thank god she had mine to use till the time (since we both ordered the same ring size).
So, in what cases will Oura not replace your charger or Ring?
- If you lose your products, or in case somebody steals them.
- Normal wear and tear, such as scratches and dents, is caused by everyday handling.
- Consumable parts, including batteries.
- Yanking on the cable too hard while it was plugged in,
- Damaging the connector
These wouldn’t be covered by warranty. In essence, I can say that Oura’s policy focuses on replacing chargers due to inherent flaws in the product itself, not wear and tear or accidental user damage.
However, if you have purchased the Supplemental warranty coverage, you can go for the replacement according to your Extend Protection Plan {a two-year ($45) and three-year ($60) plan} that you added during your original purchase.
Extended Protection plan includes accidental damages that aren’t usually covered under Oura’s warranty. It provides more protection from spilled drinks/beverages. Do more research about it before investing your money in Extended Protection.
Chargers are covered under the same warranty that comes with Oura Ring. If they’re able to verify you have a defective charger via photo/video evidence, they will provide you with a replacement. Otherwise, you have to buy a new one in order to make your smart ring work. Or you can always buy additional chargers from their website by spending $59.
How to Get a New Oura Ring Charger When it is Not Replaced by Oura?
So, when I ordered the additional charger for Smriti, here is what I did:
- Visit the Oura Help page.
- Go to the Troubleshooting page.
- After that, click on the Ring and Charger.
- Then, go to Troubleshoot Charging Issues.
- Here, you will find a link from where you can purchase additional chargers directly from the website.
Or you can simply click here and get a new charger. - Now, choose your Oura ring size and click on Add to Cart.
- Choose either PayPal or GPay or go to Proceed To Checkout.
- Here, enter your address details for delivery and billing. Finally, Proceed to payment.
Get a New Charger From Marketplaces
Buying chargers from the official website isn’t the only option. You can also buy them from Amazon, Target, and Best Buy. Besides these, there are many other places where you can buy Oura ring chargers. They are also available locally in many countries.
