It was only a week ago I was checking my sleep patterns in the Oura app. I was dumbfounded as I realized my Oura data was not synced with the app! I dug into the matter and got help. Also, I reached out to Oura support, and the issues were resolved.
While checking for possible solutions, I found that the Oura Ring not connecting with the app is a common issue. Many Oura users are already sharing their grievances on social media. If your Oura Ring is not synching with the app too, you might want to check the easy ways that worked for me.
Fix Oura Ring Not Connecting Issue
When I found that my Oura Ring was not connecting with the app, the first thing that I thought was a charging issue. Since I have to check the app every time for Oura battery health, I often miss it. However, this time, it was not the case, so I tried on my own and found solutions that rescued me from the trouble!
01. Check If Your Ring Is Paired With One Device Only
Recently, I bought a new phone and reinstalled the Oura app and other apps. What I forgot is to disconnect the Oura Ring from the old device.
When I checked that Oura Ring works only if it is paired with one device, I realized my fault. I removed the ring from the old phone and connected the Oura Ring to the new phone. It worked!
Follow the quick steps below to remove your ring from the old device (if you switched devices recently):
1. Place your ring on the charger (a minimum 50% charge is required).
2. Go to the Menu tab.
3. Tap on Settings.
4. Scroll down and tap on Sign Out.
5. Next, open the device’s Bluetooth settings and delete the Oura Ring (“oura_A038xxx”) from the list.
02. Check Your Device’s Bluetooth Connection
While searching for solutions, I found that in most of the cases, Oura users forgot to enable Bluetooth connection on their smartphones.
Considering Oura connects with the app via Bluetooth, you have to make sure that your device’s Bluetooth connection is enabled while synching with the ring. Sometimes, even after I turn on the Bluetooth connection, the devices are not connected. Then, I had to re-check the connection thoroughly.
03. Make Sure Your Ring Has Enough Charge
Being a long-term Oura user, I understand that some of the Oura features drain the ring’s battery rapidly. These features may not work if my ring’s battery is less than 30% charged.
Hence, I try to follow Oura battery notifications diligently and make sure my Oura Ring has enough charge to perform without any interruption.
04. Check For The Oura App Update
If your Oura app is not up-to-date, then it may not work properly. Many Oura users admitted that the Oura app works best when it is up-to-date without any syncing issues.
I personally found this tip should be the law that must be followed by every Oura user. You can update the Oura app from the App Store and Play Store, respectively.
05. Enable App Permissions
My Oura Ring is constantly synching with Fitbit, Strava, Therabody, Natural Cycles, and more. The point is I have to pay attention to the App settings and permissions that are granted.
Sometimes, it gets really complicated, and I miss enabling the necessary permission for the Oura app. That results in not synching the data properly. That’s why I recommend you go through the syncing process again to see if the data is flowing properly. Here is how to enable app permissions:
1. Open the app Settings of your device.
2. Tap on Apps & Notifications.
3. Select App Permissions.
4. Tap the toggle button next to the Oura app.
Note: These are generic steps. Based on your device model, these steps could differ a little.
06. Turn Off Battery Saver Mode
Many Android users are concerned about the phone’s battery health. Sometimes, they tend to put it in battery-saving mode.
Unfortunately, when someone turns on the battery saver mode, it restricts functions and prohibits the app from running multiple features that drain most of the battery out of the phone. Therefore, the app fails to work properly, including syncing with the Oura Ring.
So, my advice is not to turn on the battery-saver mode if you are using the Oura Ring.
07. Force Close The App
Another step that I often recommend in reconnecting with the Oura app is the force closing of the Oura app. Sometimes, glitches could obstruct the Oura Ring from syncing with the app. Try force closing your app and remove all app cache from the device to connect your Oura Ring with the app again.
08. Remove All Other Oura Rings From Your Device
From community pages I found that Oura users tried to connect multiple Oura Rings with one device. However, this action leads to more complications as the app fails to recognize which one to connect with.
Oura Ring works best when it is connected to one device only. So, I advise you to connect multiple Oura Rings into one device.
09. Check If Oura Is In Airplane Mode
Many Oura Ring users are concerned about the EMF related side effects of the ring. Hence, they often turned on the Oura Ring Airplane mode. While the Airplane mode is on, the ring is literally not connected to any device. Hence, it won’t sync to the Oura app.
Once every 7 days, the Oura Ring has to be charged. While charging, the Airplane mode is turned off automatically, allowing the ring to sync with the app.
Here is how to disable the Airplane mode:
1. Place your Oura Ring on its charger.
2. Wait a few seconds, and you will find the Ring syncing with the app. If not, close the app and reopen.
10. Enable Location Services
My experience says that disabling the location service can interrupt your Oura Ring connection. Disabling the location service can prohibit your device from finding and connecting with Oura Ring. Hence, whenever I sync my Oura Ring with the app, I make sure that the device’s location service is enabled along with the Bluetooth option.
11. Bluetooth Reset
Another effective solution that I found is Bluetooth resetting. It worked for many Oura users magically. All you have to do is remove your Oura Ring from the device’s Bluetooth connection list and connect again. Here is how to do it:
1. Place your Oura Ring on the charger and power connect.
2. Turn off your device’s Bluetooth.
3. Close your Oura app and make sure it is not running in the background.
4. Now, enable the device’s Bluetooth.
5. Open Bluetooth settings and remove your Oura Ring (“oura_A038xxx”) from the list of Bluetooth devices.
6. Launch the Oura app and then “Pair” Oura Ring again with your device via Bluetooth.
12. Soft Reset
Soft reset process gently shake, and calibrate the Oura Ring sensors. The reason why I recommend a soft reset is that there is no threat of losing Oura data. Here is how to do Soft Reset:
1. Open the Oura app and tap on the ring icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Home tab.
2. Swipe left to open the “My Oura Ring” page.
3. Tap “Soft reset.”
13. Hardware Reset
As I reached out to Oura support for ‘more solutions’ to fix the connectivity issue, I found that the Hardware Reset is an effective way to recalibrate the ring’s sensors. In this process, you may only lose the unsynced data, but the data already synced with the app will not be removed. Here are the quick steps to follow:
1. Place your Oura Ring on the charger.
2. Tap the charger a few times rapidly while placing the ring on it (you have to hold the ring with the help of a finger so that it won’t be moved).
3. Wait for one minute (approximately). Re-open the Oura App and check the connectivity.
14. Reach Out To Oura Support
Unfortunately, if none of my above suggested tips help you to resolve the connecting issue, then there could be some real problem with your Oura Ring. In other words, maybe the Oura Ring is somehow technically damaged. In that case, it is wise to reach out to the Oura support team and raise a ticket. Wait for Oura’s response and proceed accordingly.
More Fixes For Oura Ring Not Connecting Issue
Sometimes, there are solutions that are too simple to get overlooked. So, here, find some common fixes that can be useful to troubleshoot the Oura Ring connection issue.
01. Check The Device Is On The Latest OS
Believe it or not, I discovered that one of my colleagues went through the Oura Ring connection issue because her phone’s OS was not updated! Later, I found out that Oura releases updates often.
If the device does not have the latest OS, it may not support the current Oura app version, which may lead to a connection issue. So, make sure that your device’s OS is up-to-date.
02. Keep The Ring In The Bluetooth Range
Whenever you connect Oura Ring to the app to sync data, make sure that these two gadgets are placed side-by-side on the table. The best time to sync data is during shower time (according to most of the Oura users). Hence, simply remove the ring, place it on the charger, place your device near the charger, and let it sync with the Oura app. It works well.
03. Find a Better Network Connection
One of my friends mentioned, that sometimes, his Wi-Fi connection ditch him when syncing the Oura Ring. Then, he simply switches to mobile data so that there won’t be any interruption in connection. So, if your Wi-Fi network is not stable, move to a better network connection or switch to mobile data.
04. Re-install the Oura App
This is a simple solution that I recommend using not only for the Oura app but for other apps, too! Whenever you find that the Oura app is malfunctioning or troubling to sync, just uninstall the app and reinstall it again. This may save your day!
05. Restart Device
I found one Oura user confessing on social media that his device is loaded with apps and continuously syncing with multiple devices. This action sometimes collapses his device, leading to multiple apps being frozen, including the Oura app).
The only solution is to restart the phone. He admitted that restarting the device solved his Oura Ring not connecting issue a couple of times.

Wrap Up
In this article, I have discussed 19 possible ways to address when your Oura Ring is not connecting properly. You may not need to try all the fixes. It surely depends on the plausible ‘reason’ why your smart ring is acting weird.
For me, hardware reset and soft rest work magically every time. Besides, if you get a word with Oura and are not satisfied with their solutions, you can return the ring and claim a refund (check warranty period).
However, this is only possible if your ring is under the warranty period. For now, you can try all the plausible fixes, and if you have more queries, drop them in the comment section!
