Evie Ring Vs Garmin Fenix 7 Pro – For Extensive Health Monitoring!

For the past few months, I have been more inclined to fitness and workouts. So, along with the Evie Ring, I decided to wear the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar smartwatch. Though I was satisfied with Evie Ring’s 24/7 health monitoring, I felt that the Garmin Fenix Pro’s workout & fitness-centered metrics had enhanced my overall performance and fitness goal.

Initially, I was skeptical about wearing the big dial watch during my workout sessions, but its sophisticated display and controls quenched my concerns.

Be it features or design, I find both of them quite attractive, but now I feel that using the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar is indeed a better option. I will share my experience of wearing both of them, which will help you better understand.

Major Differences Between Evie Ring And Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar

One of the most visible differences between Evie and Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar is that the former is a smart ring, and the latter is a smartwatch. So, they are different in specifications and can’t be compared directly. However, being smart wearables, both have major features that are crucial for monitoring health and fitness.

Despite Evie’s claim of being a female-centric ring, I find the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar watch’s metrics more helpful to women users. The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro does have pregnancy detection that is missing in the female-centric Evie Ring!

Still, the Evie Ring is HSA/FSA eligible, but not the Fenix 7 Pro. Isn’t that ironic?

Apart from having mutual features, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar also has many training workouts, outdoor activities, and recreation modes that I feel are essential for a healthy mind and body. Evie lacks many of these things that I am now able to enjoy through my smartwatch.

Does Evie Ring lose its relevance? Well, you can decide after reading the complete comparison.

Design And Colors

When I bought my Silver Evie Ring, it was available in two more colors- Gold and Rose Gold as well. I was impressed with the design, especially the open-ended circle. At least I could now wear a ring that looked more stylish and sleek, unlike bulky rings.

My Sapphire Solar smartwatch is a solar edition with a big slate-grey dial. Thankfully, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro is customizable. So, I had plenty of options when choosing more straps for it. You can find bold and vibrant colored straps made of different materials.

It’s really tempting and classy! Never mind. Better luck next time. Unlike the Evie Ring, I find the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro more diverse, colorful, and stylish.

Comfort And Durability

Since Evie Ring has already done a good job of having an open-ended design, I don’t find it difficult to wear or remove the ring, even on my swollen fingers.

Earlier, my first Evie ring was one size larger. So, it did not give me accurate results due to poor fitting. I returned it and got the current one. It fits well on both my index fingers.

Sometimes, when I remove my ring after a long duration, it leaves marks on my fingers. But it doesn’t hurt or itch.

I find the Garmin Sapphire Solar smartwatch a little bulky as it has a big dial. In this regard, the Evie Ring is quite lighter and invisible. I found the leather strap more comfortable than the silicone and metal straps.

When I wear it for a long duration, the straps leave a mark on my wrist. Due to excess sweating, I find it difficult to wear for longer durations during outdoor activities.

The durability of the product lies in the production material. I find both Evie and Garmin Fenix 7 Pro robust and hard. Though their official websites claim it to be scratch-resistant, I got a few dents and scratches on my Evie Ring while knocking my hand at the corner of the table or doing intense workouts. So, I avoid wearing it when there is a high chance of friction.

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s dial is surely tougher, but it can get damaged if not handled properly. However, in my opinion, the Evie Ring is more prone to scratches and, thus, less durable than Garmin Fenix Pro.

Battery Life & Charging

While my Evie ring has a portable charging case, I can charge the Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar using a cable charger. The Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s Corning Gorilla Glass DX lens can convert sunlight into battery charging, extending the battery charge for more than 2-3 hours. However, the complete charging process takes more than 2 hours, and it’s quite a long duration.

Usually, I prefer to charge it when the battery drops below 50%, as it takes around 1-1.5 hours. My Evie Ring gets charged within an hour. Moreover, the charging case holds up to 10 charges. So, whenever I put my ring inside the case, it keeps charging.

One thing that bothers me a lot about smart devices is that they drain batteries faster than their officially claimed duration. It takes me more than the mentioned time to charge batteries in both devices as well.

While my Evie Ring lasts up to 3-4 days, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar lasts for 14-15 days in the smartwatch mode. But it drains within 40-45 hours in the GPS Mode, which is too fast! Undoubtedly, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro battery lasts longer than Evie’s, but I like Evie’s charging method more.

Companion Apps

My experience with the Evie Ring’s app has been really smooth. It has a user-friendly interface and colorful slides with eye-catching details of major health updates and fitness monitoring. However, I like the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s Connect IQ more because it has more detailed and comprehensive slides.

While the Evie app shows me my sleep data, SpO2, HR, Daily Summary, etc., which is fine to know when starting a new day, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s app gives me review details of every tracked activity with a comparison to my health stats. Its training plans have really helped me boost my energy. In my opinion, the Evie app can add more specific details. Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s app is already doing a good job.

While both the Evie Ring and Garmin Fenix 7 Pro have advanced sensors, several sensors are absent from each. For example, the Evie Ring does not have a wrist heart rate monitor, thermometer, gyroscope, barometric altimeter, or Ambient Light sensor like the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro smartwatch.

Similarly, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro does not have IR LEDs and a Skin Temperature sensor like the Evie Ring. Garmin Fenix 7 Pro has more sensors than Evie and is capable of detecting more health metrics. I like the smartwatch more than my ring, not because of the sensors but because of its ability to track more metrics than the ring.

Accuracy

When I compared both fitness gadgets, I found that metrics like heart rate, SpO2, HRV, sleep, and step tracking were almost the same. Though the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro doesn’t claim to be a medical-grade device, unlike Evie, it can detect heart rate and activities almost accurately.

MetricsEvie Ring’s Margin of ErrorFDA’s Margin of Error
Heart Rate1 BPM2 BPM
SpO22%3.5%

Since Evie Ring’s pulse oximeter has already exceeded the FDA standards, I find its SpO2 and HR readings more reliable than Garmin Fenix 7 Pro.

Sleep Tracking

I was relying on my Evie Ring’s sleep tracking until I got the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watch. The ring tracked my sleep duration and quality throughout the night. The previous evening’s data on resting heart rate, heart rate variability, SpO2 (Blood oxygen), skin temperature variation, and respiration rate were used to analyze the quality of sleep.

I could visually check my sleep stages—light, deep, awake, and REM sleep throughout the night on the Evie app.

I was skeptical about wearing the bulky smartwatch during sleeping hours but decided to give it a shot, and the result astonished me.

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s sleep tracking is far more elaborate and illustrative than the Evie Ring. It gives me sleep scores based on my sleep duration, sleep stages, and HRV. It also connects my sleeping history, stress history, and energy level data to provide me with better sleep insights.

Thus, I find its tracking more effective than Evie. Wearing it throughout the night is still a challenge for me, but I am gradually learning.

Women-Centric Health Metrics

Despite being a unisex smartwatch, I find the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watch more illustrative in monitoring women’s health metrics than the women-centric Evie Ring.

While I need to manually log in my period details on both devices, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro tracks the cycle more closely and gives insights like nutrition, training, and health tips according to my menstrual phase.

My Evie Ring predicts my period, fertility, and ovulation dates only, but Garmin Fenix 7 Pro can track irregular periods, menopause transition, and pregnancy as well. Since Evie claims to be a female-oriented ring and does not have pregnancy tracking yet, it seems a bit off to me. So, I find Evie good only for tracking normal menstrual health.

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro has an elaborate Pregnancy feature that tracks the baby’s gestational age and size throughout the pregnancy and provides related exercise and nutrition. I have not used this feature yet, but I find it pretty helpful for a to-be mother. Evie must include the pregnancy feature if it truly wants to be a female-oriented ring.

In terms of features, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro exceeds the Evie Ring. I use the smartwatch for plenty of things, such as texting, controlling phone calls, viewing notifications, making contactless payments, and controlling music.

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s Body Battery feature is quite helpful for me. It monitors my HRV, HR, and movement data to give me stats on acute load, an important metric that checks my functional performance capacity. Evie could have added a similar feature for a better understanding.

Another Garmin Fenix 7 Pro feature that I found quite helpful is the hydration goal, which keeps me reminded to stay hydrated throughout the day. It has covered basic metrics that Evie has overlooked. In addition, my Garmin Watch also has a multi-band GPS feature that I think should be available in all smart gadgets.

Prices, Subscription & Availability

I bought the Evie Ring for $269, and the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar has cost me $899.99. As you can see, there is a huge difference in their prices.

While I find Evie a bit overpriced, given its new presence in the market, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro is indeed too much for a smartwatch. Though it is far better than smart rings in terms of features, the price is certainly very high.

SubscriptionFreeYes

While Evie Ring’s price includes the subscription cost as well, Garmin Fenix 7 Pro requires an additional subscription plan that you can choose according to your preferences.

Evie Ring is a good option for tracking basic health metrics, but I feel that the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro is far better for tracking intense exercises, activities, and workouts. It’s like a one-time investment for people like me who are more indulged in sports activities and training sessions.

In terms of availability, the Evie Ring is only available in the US markets, so its reach is quite limited. On the other hand, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watch is available in the UK, Netherlands, US, and other countries, so getting the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watch instead of the Evie Ring is easier.

Final Verdict

As of now, you must have understood that I am more inclined to use the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro smartwatch than the Evie Ring. I prefer quality over quantity. Though Evie is cheaper than Garmin Fenix 7 Pro, it does not have as many features as the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro.

Apart from tracking health metrics, it offers many outdoor activities, training sessions, workouts, and essential features like contactless payment, music controls, alert detection, etc. In my opinion, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro has all the features required of a smart fitness tracker. Thus, it is much better than the Evie Ring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wrap Up

Currently, I am using both the Evie Ring and the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro smartwatch and using their combined stats to monitor my health and fitness. While I find Evie’s HR and SpO2 monitoring more reliable, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro watch tracks my activities and workouts more properly than the Evie Ring.

Since wearing the watch day and night is hectic for me as it leaves marks on my wrist, I prefer wearing the Evie Ring alone at night when I just want to know about my sleep duration and sleep quality. I use the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro to detect naps during the day.

Evie Ring’s spot-check feature and daily summary, along with Garmin Fenix 7 Pro’s health snapshots, give wholesome information. Thus, together, they provide me with all the major health updates that keep me healthy and fit.
